A new company called BQ (Bright&Quick) has appeared on the Russian market, all of whose products are manufactured in large factories in China. Actually, almost all other more well-known brands operate according to the same scheme. While tablets and smartphones do not arouse my particular interest due to their uniformity and similarity with other devices from different companies, BQ phones stand out for their original design. By the way, in “BCY” almost all gadgets are named after major cities in the world, for example, Hong Kong, Seattle, London, Rio and so on. And some names of smartphones are like this: Princeton (a private research university), Harvard (one of the most famous universities in the USA and around the world) or Stanford (a university near Palo Alto, in the heart of Silicon Valley, California, USA). It seems to me that this is quite an interesting feature!

Today's review will be dedicated to the Hong Kong phone. It has a metal body, small thickness, an unusual design for dialers, is equipped with an IPS screen, which is also somewhat unusual, and can work as a Bluetooth headset.

Design, dimensions, control elements

When the BQ 1565 phone “arrived” to me, I immediately noted that I had already seen the design of the device somewhere. When I posted several photos of the device on Twitter, people began to actively respond, saying “this is a Bluetooth headset mini remote control from HTC.”

It turned out that the developers from the Bright&Quick team did not think long about creating the appearance of Hong Kong - they simply copied the design of the HTC Mini plus (BL R120), one to one.

The dimensions of the BQ HK are 120x40x10 mm, and it weighs 85 grams. Lightweight, compact, easy to handle, fits perfectly in the hand due to its smooth edges and small width.

It looks unusual: either an MP3 player, or a mini-headset, or a remote control. In a word, it attracts attention.

The front side is made of rough polished aluminum, which gives solidity to the device. The edging is made of black porous plastic, and the back cover is semi-glossy plastic. Fingerprints do not remain anywhere, the case is non-staining.

After a couple of weeks of use, the back cover did not fray, and there was not a single scratch left on the front side. The assembly of the device is ambiguous: on the one hand, there is no creaking or play, on the other, the rear panel on the left does not close completely. Most likely just a bad sample. Otherwise, everything is fine.

At the top center of the front of the device there is a round hole for the speaker, covered with a large metal mesh. The speaker volume is average, intelligibility is high, the interlocutor can be heard clearly. On the right is the BQ logo, reminiscent of the logo of the famous American manufacturer of audio equipment and audio products Beats Electronics, on the left is the model name.

The keyboard is located under the screen, a little to the right is the microphone. At the bottom there is micro-USB. Unfortunately, BQ Hong Kong was deprived of a standard 3.5 mm jack for connecting headphones, and the kit does not include an adapter or “ears” with a micro-USB input.

The keyboard is made of black porous plastic. The buttons are round, each with a diameter of 7 mm, spaced 4 mm apart. They rise 1 mm above the body. The travel of the buttons is minimal, the pressing is firm, there is a “click” sound, it is quite loud, so it may irritate some users.

A little higher is the receive and hang up key. Between them is a convex round joystick with an "OK" button in the center.

The symbols are marked with white translucent paint. The Cyrillic alphabet is slightly larger than the Latin alphabet. There is a backlight, it is light green. The brightness is low and does not dazzle the eyes at night.

To lock the screen, press the “End” button. To unlock, press sequentially twice on “Receive” and immediately on “Hang Up”.

I used the device exclusively as a “dialer”, so the operating time was about a day, provided that I called for about 30-40 minutes a day, wrote and sent 10-20 SMS. Of course, not a lot, but the battery is only 450 mAh.

Communication capabilities

The phone only works in 2G networks (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz). To access the Internet, you can use GPRS (class 12). There is WAP version 2.0. Available Bluetooth version 2.1 with support for profiles: A2DP, SPP, DUN, FTP, AVRCP, PBAP. When the device is connected to a USB port, it can be used as a USB Flash Drive.

Messages

The main menu in the “Messages” section contains a typical list: new message, inbox, outbox, and so on. In the settings there is a “Status Report” item.

When writing a new message, you need to enter the recipient, start entering the text a little lower. The font is very small, so I do not recommend this device for people with low vision as a device for sending SMS.

Top right - how many characters you entered and how many SMS you wrote. Letters are deleted by pressing the “End” button.

Multimedia

In the "Audio" section there is a music player. “Right”/“Left” – scrolling through songs, “Up”/“Down” – volume. The “OK” button is responsible for Play/Pause.

The settings have an equalizer: soft rock, rock, jazz, music hall, classical, regular.

It was not possible to check the volume in the headphones, as well as the sound quality, since the kit does not include either a headset or a special adapter from micro-USB to a 3.5 mm jack.

The speaker volume is slightly above average, the quality is not bad, but at the maximum level the speaker wheezes.

I didn’t check the video, since it’s unlikely that anyone will watch anything on a 1.54-inch screen. There is an FM radio, but it does not work without headphones, even with a connected USB cable nothing happened.

Images

The internal and external memory is scanned for images. In application properties:

You can't edit it in any way.

Conclusion

The BQ Hong Kong phone turned out to be controversial. On the one hand, it has a cool appearance, compact dimensions, light weight, and a cool screen. On the other hand, there are various inconsistencies and shortcomings: the lack of a headset included and a standard headphone output, only one SIM card, one speaker for speakerphone and speech, an extremely weak battery, the inability to listen to the radio without headphones. There's not even a flashlight :(

Bright&Quick also went a little overboard with the price; after all, the brand is still unknown to few people. Today the device costs 2,200 rubles. I won’t mention smartphones for this money, but there are a lot of competitors:

Costs about the same as BQ. Screen 2.4 inches, resolution 240x320 pixels. There is a camera and a 1100 mAh battery.

The price is about 2,300 rubles. Almost everything is the same as in the 206th Nokia.
