How to add a ringtone to a call. Everything about setting a ringtone on an Android device. How to assign a ringtone to a group of contacts

5 minutes to read.

Starting with version 4 of Android, there are fewer and fewer problems with changing the ringtone - OS developers long ago introduced a separate tab dedicated to music notifications in Settings, added the ability to change the “sound” of individual contacts, and opened access to system parameters to third-party applications. But, if for some reason you still have questions, then the surest way to put music on your call is to look at the detailed instructions!

Proven methods

You can change the standard and already boring ringtone to a long-loved track on the Android operating system like this:

Install via media player

The “Music” section, hidden either on the desktop or in the main menu of the smartphone, allows you to turn any track available on the internal or external memory into ringtone music. And the algorithm for setting your own ringtone is extremely simple.

By the way, the method sometimes works with third-party MP3 music players, and not just with the standard one - so sometimes you can experiment!

Via "Settings"

If for some reason the method above did not work, then you will have to turn to the truly all-powerful menu of parameters and capabilities of the operating system. It is in “Settings”, in the “Sounds and Notifications” section, that you can easily change the vibration, activate the appearance of the “indicator light”, and, of course, change the ringtone. Anyone can understand the system menu, but to complete the picture it is better not to deviate from the instructions.

In the same menu, you can also set a notification about the arrival of SMS - you will have to look for such a function in the “Default ringtone” section.

Via the "Contacts" menu

The method of changing the ringtone through “Settings” almost always works, but sometimes it’s not the performance that’s important, but the variety. It is the address book that will allow you to add individuality to each contact and turn a boring call into a real musical hit parade. It all works as follows.

The method works on all modern versions of Android, but some actions may differ, as well as the names of some menus and sections.

Through third party applications

Did the methods listed above not lead to positive results? Are there any additional problems? This means you will have to turn to system tools available on Google Play that partially automate the process. The best option to put a song on a call is a third-party service program - Rings Extended.

It is impossible to get lost in the main menu. The interface is predictable and clear, and the functionality is incredibly extensive. Developers allow you to choose a ringtone for SMS and calls, cut off the excess in no time, change the vibration and set each individual contact its own notification.

Another good assistant in solving problems with your ringtone can be RingTone Slicer FX, which is functionally a music editor. If it’s too boring to work with the files available in memory yourself, then the developers suggest looking into the extensive electronic library of pre-prepared ringtones. The selection is impressive, and even with proper navigation and the ability to sort the results by views and reviews from the community.

Possible problems and their elimination

Each method listed above usually works on all versions of the Android operating system and on smartphones of any brand. But if problems arise and the ringtone is not set, then it is worth understanding the following small nuances:

  • Check the duration of the track installed on the call. If three-minute compositions are not played, then it is better to cut off the excess, at least to a minute, and sometimes to 30 seconds.
  • If you can’t even select a ringtone from the list of available ones, then there is a problem with access rights to the file library; it is better to use the explorer downloaded from Google Play.
  • Sometimes tracks for an incoming call can be added not from the entire library of files, but only from some directories. For example, it is sometimes better to download ringtones at: media/audio/ringtones, and notifications at media/audio/notifications.
  • If an individual contact from the phone book cannot set the ringtone they like, then sometimes it’s worth re-selecting the method of saving the contact from the SIM card to the smartphone’s memory. It seems like a small thing, but it saves the situation.

Standard Android ringtones can be amazingly good. Some manufacturers even create branded ringtones, inviting famous bands. For example, LG ordered ringtones for the Vienna Boys' Choir for the premium Optimus G series. But often you want to put on a ringtone a song that you love or simply consider suitable for notification.

Feel free to look down on iPhone owners. You have a great opportunity to install your favorite songs or pieces of music on your Android smartphones.

How to set your favorite song as a melody

Android developers have simplified the process to the limit. Now you have enough:

  • open system player
  • select the desired song
  • make a long tap on it
  • select “Set as ringtone”

All! Now the selected song will sound like a ringtone for all your contacts.

If you want to manually set any contacts to a different ringer, do this:

  • Open your phone book
  • Select contact
  • Click the Edit icon (pencil-shaped)
  • Select the desired item from the Ringtones folder or the list of preset ringtones

But to do this, you must first have the desired ringtone in the list. How to do this - read below.

How to create a special ringtone

Still, putting the entire song on a ringtone is not the best solution. She may have a long introduction, which spoils the impression. Sometimes you want to start a song from a specific place so that it is immediately clear who is calling.

In this case, you will need an audio editor. There are a great variety of them for computers (the best free option is Audacity or MP3 Direct Cut). However, you can process the song directly on your smartphone. Of the many free audio editors out there, we can recommend Lexis Audio Editor.

Using the Open button, load the song into it. Then, using the sliders (initially they are at the beginning and end of the song), indicate the beginning and end of the desired fragment. Built-in tools allow you to navigate within a song.

The application saves files in WMA format, which is recognized by the system and set as a ringtone.

After processing, save the fragment with the Save button in the folder of your choice. In order for the fragment to be recognized by the system as a ringtone, you must select the Ringtones folder on the memory card to save it. If your smartphone is not equipped with a MicroSD slot, this folder must be selected (or created) in .

To set the selected melody as your default ringtone, do the following:

  • Open Settings
  • Select the "Sound" section
  • Find the “Ringtone” item and tap on it
  • Select the processed fragment at the top of the list, in the “My ringtones” section

That's it, now it becomes your default ringtone. If you want to assign a personal ringtone to one of your contacts, see above how to do this.

Android is full of useful bells and whistles and they are constantly being replenished with new ones, making it possible to use our gadgets more efficiently.

If you want to receive notifications during a call, you will need to activate the "call waiting" option

This setting is available in phones regardless of the operating system version, for example, Android 5.1 or 6.0.1 and user interface.

You will hear some beeps in the speaker, you can switch to another call and talk to someone else.

This way, you will be able to keep the original call open and answer the new one without closing either of the two.

If you answer another call while on a call, the first party will hear a voice message or song, depending on your network operator.

How to enable call waiting on your Android phone

By the way, there is another great way to almost instantly enable call waiting on your Android phone. I recommend.

Log into the telephony app and then turn them on. To do this, click “Options” at the top left and go to settings.

Now go to the “Advanced” tab.

Here, in the “Call Waiting” section, move the slider to the right position.

This means that you will receive notifications about other incoming calls while you are on a call.

That's not all. Let's go back and go to another tab - “Signals when calling.

Here, opposite the line “Notification. During a call...”, also move the slider to the right.

Important points in setting up call waiting on Android

Please note that the names may differ slightly from mine, depending on the android version and user interface.

In this case, I used a Samsung Galaxy phone with Android 6. Also, make sure that the call on hold option is active.

This feature has no other settings and can be turned on or off.

There are other settings in the telephony menu that you can play with, but with caution.

We are talking about call forwarding - be careful not to make a mistake. There you have the choice of when and which number will be forwarded to another.

You can also turn on call blocking, show or hide your phone number, and other options. All these settings are available in the Phone application menu. Good luck.

A standard situation when you want to change the ringtone on your Android device. Moreover, listing the reasons why such a desire was suddenly born is completely pointless, because there can be an innumerable number of them.

Well, the glass of vodka on the table from Leps can no longer go down my throat, or I no longer have the strength to listen to how Stas Mikhailov suffers and falls while taking off. In general, we will now talk not about the causes, but about the effect, that is, about how to change the ringtone on Android.

There are several ways to perform this procedure. The Android OS is equipped with its own built-in tools that you can use in this case, or you can resort to the capabilities of numerous applications.

In fact, this task is not at all difficult, and the process itself is similar for almost all versions and models of devices.

Using system capabilities

First you need to open the main settings of your gadget and go to the “Sound Profiles” section (on some devices “Sound Settings”).

We find the “General” line, click the gear located opposite it, after which we will be taken to the profile settings. After this, the following settings will become available to us: volume, vibration, notification sounds, etc.

To select the melody that we will set for incoming calls, you need to get into the multimedia storage, to do this, “tap” on the “Voice call ringtone” field:

Now, select the ringtone you like and click “OK”.

The ringtone for notifications or video calls will be configured in the same way.

*Note: On Android 5.0 Lollipop model, if the device is set to silent or vibration mode, the option may not be available.

Changing ringtone on Android using the program

Using the method described above, you can select a melody only from the default options. But, for sure, you will want to install a track with your favorite melody, which is simply not in the built-in music library. In this case, you need to download a special application that will cope with the task with a bang.

We recommend, which is significantly superior in functionality to the standard conductor. If you now open “Sound Profiles”, and then click on the line “Ringtone of a voice call”, then on the choice offered by the system, click “ES Explorer”, which does not play, but activates the file that you will see on the display. Once the desired file is selected, it is registered as a ringtone or notification sound in the list of preset ringtones:

Using a file manager

Another method that adds selected media files to the list of default ringtones. Moreover, here you can use both the installed and standard file manager. What to do:

In the main menu, open the file manager (can be “file manager” or “Explorer”):

Now you need:

  • Find the desired file (mp3) and copy it.
  • In the smartphone settings, open “Memory”, find the Ringtones folder and paste the copied file into it.

After these steps, the ringtone you have chosen will be available for installation using the first or second method described above.

*Note:

  • To work correctly, file names should not contain Cyrillic characters.
  • The method may not work on some device models.

How to set your own ringtone for each subscriber

To receive a call from an individual (or each) contact from your list, you need to do the following:

We open the phone book, determine the contact to which we will set the melody, and “tap” on it. In the drop-down list of actions (edit, send, etc.), select “Set ringtone” (maybe “Ringtone” or something else):

Well, “for a snack” video

Android is an operating system that allows the user to individualize their device, completely customizing it for themselves. But sometimes owners of Android mobile phones experience difficulties trying to understand settings that at first seem not so complicated.

In the Android system, you can set a separate ringtone for any event

There are many options for changing ringtones on your smartphone. And today we will look at most of them in detail.

All these methods are divided into 2 groups:

  • using standard operating system applications - such as alarm clock or settings;
  • using advanced methods - by distributing the desired music to specific folders on the memory card, or using root access.

The first and, perhaps, the easiest way to change the ringtone on a smartphone is to do it using the built-in music player. To do this, you need to go to the main menu and open the “Music” or “Player” tab. This program may be called differently on different phones, but it should be present in any case.

Find the desired song in the list of audio recordings that you would like to play and press it. A window will appear in which you will need to select the “Call” option or something like that. Perhaps this item will be hidden under three dots, the “More” or “Advanced” button.

Installing a ringtone using the file manager

Open the menu and find an icon there that says “File Manager”. Next we follow the path in which the composition is located. Either the phone memory or the SD card - it all depends on where you store your music files. Next, look for the Music directory and open it. Find the desired track and press until automatic selection is applied. Then open the context menu and click “Use as a signal”.

We set the desired composition through the standard settings

Use the menu to go to settings. Next - go to the sound tab. But then the fun begins. There is a call change function in the sound settings, that's for sure - but where it is, you'll have to figure it out. It may be called “Vibrate and ringtone”, or “Phone ringtones”, or something else. Click on the “Call” item and change the melodies, indicating the desired composition in the file manager.

Unfortunately, even now there are still phone models that allow you to set only standard ringtones as a call. There is a solution to this problem thanks to the special application Rings Extended. The application is free and can be downloaded from the Android market. When installed, it is added to the system. By going to Settings and selecting “Phone Signal”, the “Rings Extended” button will appear. When you click on it, you can set any song or audio file as a ringtone.

We use a more advanced method to set the melody

If the previous methods did not work, let's try a more advanced method. To do this, you will need to go to the memory card on your device through the file manager and create several folders there. The first folder we will create will be called media. Then create an audio folder in the media directory.

By going to this folder, we will find ourselves in the sdcard/media/audio directory. Inside we create four directories: alarms, notifications, ringtones, ui. Please note that directories are created without periods or spaces, with a lowercase letter. Thus we get:

  • sdcard/media/audio/alarms - alarm signals;
  • sdcard/media/audio/notifications - signals for alerts and SMS;
  • sdcard/media/audio/ringtones - ringtones for the phone;
  • sdcard/media/audio/ui - interface sounds.

Now, to set the desired ringtone, alarm, interface or SMS, you just need to put the desired melody in the appropriate directory. You do not have to create all 4 folders, if, for example, you want to change only the standard signal - just create the path sdcard/media/audio/ringtones and put the desired song in the ringtones directory. After completing all operations, reboot the device and try to set up a call through the phone settings - you will see that the audio recordings you moved have been added to the assortment of standard ringtones.

If you have root rights, then you can do it even simpler: copy the desired ringtones to the appropriate directories at system/media/audio.

How to set a ringtone for a call from a specific contact

To do this, we will need to go to the phone book of the smartphone. Then select the desired contact and open the additional settings window. After that, select “Set ringtone”. And then select the desired signal and save the settings.

This method only works if the contact is saved in the internal memory of the smartphone and not on the SIM card. Otherwise, you won’t be able to set a ringtone for a specific person.

Conclusion

In fact, there is nothing difficult about installing a call on Android yourself. But if the user encounters such an operating system for the first time, he may simply not know about all its capabilities. Choose any of the described methods and set the ringtone to the music you like!
