How to turn on your new iPad. Setting up an iPad: how to do it right How to set up a new ipad mini

Who would have thought that such a seemingly simple task as turning on the world's most popular tablet for the first time could require preliminary preparation? Nevertheless, it is true. Save the time you spend turning on your iPad by reading this article.

In order to turn on the iPad at all, you cannot do without a computer, laptop or desktop - it doesn’t matter. The thing is that, no matter how much you want it, the iPad will never become a “flash drive” on which you can freely upload programs via the USB port directly from the file manager. To communicate with a computer, be it a Mac or PC, you will need the iTunes program, which can be downloaded completely free of charge (if only it were different!) from the Apple website.

The iPad will never become a “flash drive” on which you can freely upload programs via the USB port directly from the file manager.

In return for the “inconvenience” caused, along with the iTunes program you receive the following:

  1. Navigation through the multimedia library, letter-by-letter search.
  2. Organizing a multimedia library, creating playlists and folders.
  3. Editing song metadata, such as “author”, “composer”, “cover”, etc.
  4. Record and import songs from CDs.
  5. Plays music, movies, podcasts, multi-band equalizer, visualizer, mini-player mode.
  6. Buying media online.
  7. Sync with iPod, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.

In general, not so bad...

And if you, having taken your brand new iPad out of the box and pressed the power button, suddenly saw a desktop with application icons on the screen, know that your iPad has already, at a minimum, been turned on and registered.

Next, you will face the registration process, which has one big pitfall: if you do not have a VISA or MasterCard credit card, then you will not be able to buy any programs in the AppStore. However, there are also many free applications, and companies that create games and applications from time to time organize “days of unheard-of generosity”, giving away their applications completely free of charge. However, you will need to register to download free applications. This can be done without a credit card.

If you do not have a VISA or MasterCard credit card, then you will not be able to buy any programs in the AppStore.

1. First, go to iTunes in the iTunes Store section.

2. Next, carefully look for any free application in the list of programs. They are usually marked with a button that says FREE.

3. Click on it, and then click on the inscription INSTALL APP.

You should see a login/registration window.

4. Click on “Create a new account” and “Next”.

5. We accept the license agreement (where can we go?). Next, enter your mailbox and password for the new account in the AppStore. Interestingly, the system itself will force you to create a complex password, which is not so easy to guess. To do this, your password must meet the following requirements:

a) at least one capital letter;

b) at least one capital letter;

d) there should not be more than 3 repetitions of one character;

e) the password length is at least 8 characters.

In order not to forget your super-complex password, it is also suggested to create a question-answer link with which you can always recover it. We refuse spam by unchecking the appropriate box and click “Next”...

6. Now the most important thing. A window will appear where in the “Credit Card” column you need to put a dot next to the word “None” or click on the button with this inscription (depending on the version of iTunes). If there is no such button or dot, then you did something wrong.

Go back to point 2 and do it all over again.

7. Next, you need to fill out all the points in the form. You can write absolutely any information, even fictitious, but only if you are registering an account in another country, Russian, German, American or, for example, Japanese, then you should indicate the real postal address. The real address is easy to indicate. When registering a Russian account (Belarus was not yet on the list of available countries), I personally entered the postal address of the “What? Where? When?” program. If the account is American, you can enter the address of a cafe, restaurant or store. It is easy to find on the Internet; a search engine will help you.

Next, you should receive a confirmation to the email address you provided. If you don't receive it right away, check the Spam folder in your mailbox. By following the link from the letter, you will activate your account and can easily use the iTunes Store and App Store, downloading all free applications from there.

Finally, I’ll give you some advice: by registering a Russian or American account, you will be able to use the AppStore versions specifically for these countries, for example, Civilization for iPad is not in the Russian App Store. In addition, it often happens that sales or free app giveaways concern only one country. And in general, for some reason there are significantly more applications in the American AppStore than in the Russian one. True, for some reason there are almost no Russian applications in the American AppStore.

By registering a Russian or American account, you will be able to use AppStore versions specifically for these countries.

Therefore, it makes sense to register two accounts at once. You can do it like this...

Suppose you created a Russian account during registration and you need to create an American one (or vice versa, it doesn’t matter, the procedure does not change).

  1. Log out of your account. To do this, click on the triangle in the upper right corner of iTunes and select Sign Out from the drop-down list.
  2. We go to the very bottom of the iTunes Store (lower right corner) and see the Russian flag icon. We click on it.
  3. A bunch of different flags appear - we are looking for, for example, the American one.
  4. Click “Login” in the upper right corner and begin registering an American account, which is no different from registering any other account. Now we have two accounts. Both require the following action to be performed in iTunes. In the menu - Store -> Authorize this computer, in the window that appears, enter your username and password and click the "Authorize" button. Now, after authorizing two accounts, you can download games and programs from two different App Stores: Russian and American. In the information about the program (right-click on the program -> information) you can find out under which account it was purchased.

After purchasing a device from Apple, you need to launch it for the first time and make preliminary settings. Many centers selling iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches offer their services for making the initial settings of a new device, sometimes demanding decent money for this. Under no circumstances should you agree to such offers, since any user can configure the device from scratch upon first launch. As soon as you activate the device when you turn it on, you will immediately see the first step with several settings options. The instructions from Apple are already quite clear, but if they are not enough, then each step and all possible options for setting up the iPhone (this applies to all models, including 4, 5, 5s and 6) will be discussed in more detail below. Note that for iPad and iPod touch they will be identical.

How to set up a new iPhone the first time you start it after purchase

  1. The first thing that appears on the screen after booting the device is the Hello greeting. This means that the setup process has begun, you need to swipe the screen by sliding your finger across the screen from right to left.
  2. You will now be prompted to connect to one of the available Wi-Fi networks. It is advisable to select one, enter the password and pair, as some further steps will require Internet access. But you can skip this step by clicking the "Next" button.
  3. The next choice is to activate the location service. If you turn it on, you can use services such as Maps, GPS, some additional camera features, and the Safari browser. Also, thanks to enabled geolocation, the “Find iPhone” function works. If you don't need any of this, you can select the "Turn off location service" option. It is worth understanding that you can enable this function at any time after making the initial device settings by going to the device settings.
  4. The next step is “Setting up the iPhone”. Here you can choose one of the data recovery methods. This is necessary in cases where the device has already been used before and a backup copy was taken from it, which is stored on the ITunes or ICloud servers. If the device is activated for the first time, there is no backup copy, select the “Set up as a new IPhone” option.
  5. Apple ID is a universal account for all official Apple services. It is necessary for programs such as iCloud, iTunes, App Store, App Music and others. If you already have an account, then select the first option and enter your unique username and password. If you don't have an account, select the "Create an Apple ID" option and go through the registration process. If for some reason you don't need an Apple ID yet, click the "Skip this step" button.
  6. Now it is advisable to carefully read the standard user agreement and click the “I Accept” button.
  7. If you activate an iPhone 5S or a newer model, you will be asked to set up Touch ID, a feature that will set a password on the device and can only be removed by touching the owner's finger. Her work is based on the uniqueness of fingerprints. If you do not want to enable this feature, select the Set Up Later option.
  8. Just in case, you will be asked to secure your device with a four-digit password. You can do this or click the “Don’t add a password” button. Remember that you can get a password after the initial setup by going to the device settings.
  9. The setup is coming to an end, all that remains is to choose whether to send data about errors and other problems to Apple servers. The company collects this information in order to fix everything in future system updates. It is better to agree, since this will not make you worse, and the company will receive detailed information about the errors and will try to prevent them from happening in the future.
  10. Done, the setup process was successful. You will receive a corresponding notification in which you will need to click the “Get Started” button.

After completing the initial setup of your device, you can open the Settings application and change all the settings to suit your needs. First of all, you should synchronize your device with iTunes servers, your Apple ID account, and also activate the “Find My iPhone” function, so that if it is lost or stolen, you have a chance to find it. Through the App Store, you can download various additional applications to expand the list of capabilities of your device.

Useful features

Modern iPads have some very useful features that are worth getting to know as quickly as possible.

The first one is Command centre. To open it, place your finger on the bottom edge of the screen (where the white, black, or gold colored plastic ends and the screen begins) and slide it up across the screen. You will see toggle icons for valuable settings - Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Airplane mode and Do Not Disturb.

Here you can also adjust the screen brightness and volume, control the music playing and quickly access the tablet's camera. It's important to remember that the brighter the screen, the faster your iPad's battery will drain. The charge will run out much faster when using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and geolocation services. If you don’t need them here and now, you should turn them off.

Another important thing - Notification Center. To get to it, swipe from the top edge of the screen towards the center. Here you will see notifications (messages about something important) from games and programs installed on the iPad Air / iPad Air 2 - messages from social networks, calendar entries and reminders. In 8, you can also add widgets to Notification Center (like a calculator, which isn't on the iPad).

Basic Settings for iPad Air/iPad Air 2

Go to Settings tablet by clicking on the corresponding icon (dark color with “gears” drawn).

1 . Connect to a Wi-Fi network (your own or one in a public place). You may be required to enter a password.
2 . On iPad with 4G (LTE) module, you can change the password for Modem Mode.
3 . Turn off notifications for unnecessary apps. For example, if you do not use the built-in calendar 8, you can avoid receiving “unnecessary” and distracting notifications. We also suggest that you read the article on optimizing mobile traffic consumption.
4 . If you think that Control Center should not work on the iPad's locked screen, disable access ( Settings -> Command centre).

5 . Set up time intervals for the function Do not disturb. At the appointed time, iPad will not distract you from work or sleep with notifications. Select Scheduled and specify the time during which you cannot be disturbed - for example, from 22 to 7 am.
