Why does your iPad battery run out quickly and do you need to replace the battery?

If you have recently noticed that the battery on your iPad 4, 3, 2, Air, Air 2, mini 2, 3, Pro runs out too quickly, then the following factors are most likely to blame for this incorrect behavior of the equipment:

  1. As a matter of fact, the battery itself has failed, simply worn out, lost its previous capacity (70% of known cases) - we strongly recommend installing a new analogue instead of the inoperative battery;
  2. A component (or components) of the printed circuit board is burnt out and does not function (10% of options) - you will have to do a free preliminary diagnostic for a comprehensive analysis of the condition of the equipment;
  3. The iPad battery drains quickly also due to faulty circuit board wiring or board tracks (20%). The listed problems arise due to careless handling of the iPad 4, 3, 2, Air, Air 2, mini 2, 3, Pro, that is, after falls, shocks, various mechanical damage or getting wet, liquid penetration into the device (oxidation, rust, corrosion) – an initial inspection is needed for further repair or restoration.

Do you need an urgent iPad mini touchscreen replacement?

If you really need to replace the battery on your iPad 4, 3, 2, Air, Air 2, mini 2, 3, Pro urgently, then notify the Gsmmoscow service center staff. They will conduct a free preliminary computer diagnostic that will show the condition of the gadget’s internal components. After analyzing the survey results, it will become clear whether your iPad can be repaired quickly or not. If the result is positive, then the rescue actions of the masters will only take you about twenty to thirty minutes, no more. At the same time, you will not have to pay more, prices remain as low as indicated in the price list. In urgent mode, installation is often carried out to replace screens, glass, speakers, but it is also possible to connect the battery in a short time. A one-year warranty, by the way, is necessarily provided by the Zhsmoskov service.

Often an old iPad 3 requires replacement of the battery due to the fact that its battery life has expired, and working constantly with the charger on is inconvenient and unnecessary. Accordingly, the question arises: is it possible to change the battery on iPad 3 yourself without turning to the services of service workshops?

In principle, why not, but only if you are professionally savvy and mentally prepared to completely disassemble the iPad. Please note that the battery is attached to the back cover of the case and to get it out you will have to disassemble the case, unscrew a bunch of bolts, remove a lot of cables and metal plates, and disconnect the wires. All this will need to be done carefully, not forgetting about the subsequent assembly of the device, during which it is important not to mix up the correct bolts and secure all the disconnected parts in the exact sequence.

If you are not afraid to get started, what is your business, we are ready to help you correctly and consistently perform all the necessary actions.

To start disassembling the iPad, be patient and have some tools: a new original battery, a hair dryer, a set of special screwdrivers and spatulas, a plastic pick, glue for gluing the battery to the case, a metal spatula.

First you need to separate the upper part of the tablet body from the lower one. Take a plastic or metal spatula in your hands and at the bottom right of the “Nome” button, try to carefully, without damaging the body, pry up the crack to insert the plastic pick, and then, moving along the lower contour, gradually detach the surface of the panel, helping with the pick and spatula. If the surface is difficult to give in, then turn on the hairdryer and heat the lower back surface of the panel so that the glue connecting the two sides of the case softens and becomes more pliable, but do not heat it too much.

Then, when the gap becomes larger, lift the bottom of the panel slightly to disconnect the cables and wires under the “Home” button, then unscrew the bolts around the perimeter of the panel one by one. At the top, you need to unscrew several bolts from the protective plate and remove it, so that under it, using a plastic spatula, you can disconnect all the cables one by one.

After this, the upper part with the display is freed and you can put it aside to begin disassembling the lower or rear part of the case, where all the hardware is located. Next, disconnect the two battery cables. On top, near the main camera, you need to unscrew the three screws on the metal plate with a special screwdriver to remove it. Under it there are camera cables that need to be disconnected using a plastic spatula.

The next thing is to unscrew the bolts on the side to release the remaining cables. After the battery is disconnected from any cables, remove the plate on which the micro boards are located.

Now all that remains is to remove the battery. To do this, use a hairdryer to blow through the rear outer surface of the case to soften the glue under the batteries, since its area is large and practically occupies the entire back cover. Then, using a wide plastic flat spatula, which we place behind the battery, and with progressive movements up and down, we remove the remaining glue so that the battery comes away from the cover. When most of the battery is disconnected, you can use your hands to help remove it completely.

Installing a new battery

In place of the removed battery, pour special glue diagonally and firmly install the original new battery for the iPad. Next, assemble the iPad in reverse order. First, we install the large plate with microcircuits in its place and connect all the cables. We screw all the plates with the same bolts that were removed. Carefully install the cameras in their place and connect the cables to them. We secure the metal plate covering the cables with three bolts, and connect the remaining cables and cables in place.

Replacing the ipad mini 2 retina battery is a manipulation, the need for which arises after 520-530 charge-discharge cycles of the device. On average, this is about 2 years of intensive use, after which the battery noticeably loses capacity. In service centers, the price for replacing an iPad mini 2 battery ranges from 1500 to 2000, and this is only work without taking into account the cost of a new battery. Armed with the detailed guide below, you can save money and replace the battery on your iPad mini 2 yourself.

Tools:

  1. 6-Piece Opening Specialty Pick Set;
  2. Thermal bag for heating glue;
  3. Spudger - a small stack for working with an open gadget;
  4. Tweezers;
  5. Sucker;
  6. Mediators;
  7. Screwdriver #00.

Replacing the battery ipad mini 2: operating procedure:

Heat the thermal bag

  1. Place the thermal bag in the center of the microwave oven.

You need to make sure that the microwave plate rotates smoothly. If the plate gets stuck, the thermal bag may overheat, burn, or melt.

  1. Heat the thermal bag for thirty seconds.
  2. During the repair process, when it cools down, it must be reheated.

Care must be taken to ensure that the thermal bag does not overheat. Overheating can cause it to simply melt.

Do not touch if it looks swollen.

If the thermal bag remains hot in the middle, use it until it cools down. Properly heated, it should stay warm for up to 10 minutes.

  1. You should remove the thermal bag from the microwave oven by holding the ends, since the middle of it is very hot.

Handle very carefully. If necessary, use a mitten.

LCD Screen Plate

  1. If the screen glass is cracked, the small pieces must be handled carefully when replacing the display;
  2. Before starting actual work, you need to stick strips of wide tape over the entire iPad display.

This will prevent cuts from broken glass and will ensure the structural integrity of the glass when lifting the display.

  1. The rest of the manual must be followed strictly. Broken glass will continue to crack as you work, and you may have to use a metal tool to remove it completely.

It is necessary to wear safety glasses to protect your eyes. Also, be careful when handling the LCD screen to avoid damaging it.

  1. Holding the heated thermal bag by both ends, place it to the left of the iPad home button;
  2. Let it sit there for about five minutes until the glue under the glass becomes soft.
  3. Carefully place the suction cup on half of the heated side;
  4. Make sure that it is completely suctioned to the screen so that the seal is maximum (without air bubbles);
  5. Hold the iPad with one hand and pull up on the suction cup to slightly separate the front glass from the back case;

The glass should be lifted slowly and very carefully, otherwise the glass may permanently crack.

  1. Holding the glass with a suction cup, carefully insert the pick into the gap between the display and the iPad body;

Make sure that the pick is no deeper than the black frame on the side of the display. Otherwise, the LCD may be damaged.

  1. Pull the plastic suction cup tip to minimize the vacuum seal and release the display.
  2. Heat the thermal bag again;
  1. Place the thermal bag on the left side of the iPad and wait a few minutes.
  2. Place the second pick next to the first and slide it along the edge of the iPad, removing the glue as you go.

If there is significant resistance while the mediators move under the glass, it is necessary to stop and reheat this area. Too much pressure can cause the glass to crack.

  1. Move the pick down the outer edge of the display to remove the adhesive;
  2. If the pick gets stuck, you should go back a few millimeters and resume moving along the outer edge of the iPad.
  3. Move the first pick to the top corner of the iPad;
  4. If the tip of the pick is visible through the front glass, it should be pulled out a little. Such moments should be avoided, since the pick may carry adhesive onto the front side of the LCD display, which will later be difficult to remove.
  5. Warm up the thermal bag again and place it on the top edge of the iPad, on top of the front camera;

Don't overheat! Wait at least ten minutes before reheating it.

  1. If the heat bag is flexible, you can bend it to heat the top left corner and top edge at the same time.
  2. Place a pick around the top left corner of the iPad to release the adhesive.
  3. Move the pick towards the top edge of the iPad, stopping in front of the camera.

Avoid contact of the mediator with the front camera, as this may stain the lens with glue or damage its module. The following will describe in detail how to avoid damaging the anterior camera.

  1. Gently pull the latch and carefully slide the tip of the pick along the top of the top edge relative to the front camera.
  2. Stop the pick moving slightly away from the front camera of the iPad;
  3. Insert the second pick to the left of the camera, where the first one was. Push it back into the corner to completely remove any remaining glue;
  4. Leave the second pick in place to prevent the corners from sticking together again as they cool.
  5. Insert the previous pick deeper into the iPad and move it away from the camera towards the corner.
  6. Leave three picks in the corners of the iPad to prevent the adhesive from re-attaching to the front panel;
  7. Warm up the thermal bag and place it on the remaining side of the iPad - along the volume and lock buttons.
  8. Slide the top right pick around the corner to completely free the top edge of the glass.

Leave this pick in place to prevent the glue from hardening again and take another pick for the next step.

  1. Insert another pick and slide it to the middle of the right edge of the iPad, removing the glue at the same time.
  2. Continue sliding along the right edge of the iPad, removing the adhesive.
  3. Leave the pick in place and warm up the thermal bag again.
  4. Place the reheated thermal bag over the iPad's home button area and let it sit there for a while to soften the adhesive under the glass.
  5. Slide the lower left pick in the lower left corner to remove the adhesive on that corner;
  6. Leave the pick in the corner. Stop for now and do not remove mediators from the iPad.

Some parts in the bottom panel area require extreme care:

  • Antennas;
  • Home button cavity;
  • Digitizer cable.

The following instructions will help you avoid damaging these components. Use a heated thermal bag and a pick only where necessary.

  1. Leave the pick from the last step in place to prevent the adhesive from re-sealing;
  2. With the other pick, carefully move towards the left antenna, stopping in front of the home button.
  3. Move the pick from the outer edge to the center of the iPad. Do not move the pick back to the outer edge, as moving in this direction may damage the antenna;
  4. If you need to slide the pick along the bottom more than once, remove it, reinsert it along the outer edge and slide it inward;
  5. Leave the pick in place.
  6. Insert the tip of the last pick next to the previous one and slide it under the home button;
  7. Stop about an inch on the right side to avoid cutting the digitizer cable;
  8. Insert the pick a little deeper and slide it towards the “home” button;
  9. Again, remember to slide the pick toward the center of the iPad when it's fully inserted; Otherwise, the antenna under the glass may be damaged.
  10. Reheat and use the thermal bag on the top panel of the iPad.
  11. This manipulation requires great care. You need to make sure that the glue is hot and soft and that the pick goes all the way around the edge. If necessary, you can stop and do the warming up procedure again;
  12. At the top of the iPad, opposite the “Home” button, you need to insert a pick into each corner. Move the picks to slightly lift the glass, separating it from the body along the entire edge;
  13. If there is significant resistance, movement should be stopped. Leave the picks in place, reheat and apply the heat bag to problem areas. Now you can try to repeat the manipulation again.
  14. Lift slowly and carefully to further release the adhesive along the bottom edge.
  15. Once all the adhesive has been released, open and turn the front glass over like a page in a book and leave it on your work surface.
  16. The front camera housing can be attached to the front panel; clean the housing and place it back on the camera to protect it;
  17. Slide the camera to one edge to free it from the glue and remove it from the front panel;
  18. Return the front camera housing to the recess on the rear housing.
  19. Using a Phillips #00 screwdriver, remove the following screws securing the LCD display:
  • Three 3.3mm screws;
  • One 4.5 mm screw.
  1. If there is a protective film on top of the LCD screws, remove it with tweezers.
  2. Do not attempt to lift the LCD completely. It's still connected to the iPad with multiple home button cables. Raise only the front camera area;
  3. Insert the flat end of a spudger under the LCD between it and the LCD plate and gently lift it up.
  4. The LCD screen is secured with glue, which must be softened before the LCD screen and its screen plate can be separated;
  5. Insert the spudger between the LCD screen and the frame and slide it toward the far edge of the iPad.
  6. Two wide connectors connecting the LCD display to the speakers;
  7. Hold the LCD display with one hand and the back of the iPad with the other;
  8. Do not attempt to completely separate the LCD display from the iPad;
  9. Carefully disconnect the LCD screen from the speakers to remove the connector, being careful not to pull on the digitizer cable.
  10. Do not attempt to completely remove the LCD display. It's still connected to the iPad with multiple home button cables. Raise only in the area of the front camera;
  11. Turn the iPad over like a page in a book, lifting it by the part next to the camera and turning it over while holding the home button area on the back case;
  12. Take care of the LCD cables when turning the display over;
  13. Place the LCD display on the front panel glass to allow access to the display screens.
  14. Slide the tip of the pick between the LCD display and the adhesive tabs to release the display;
  15. Move smoothly between each of the two adhesive tabs; Avoid damaging any adjacent cables.
  16. Remove seven 1.8mm Phillips #00 screws from the LCD screen plateau.
  17. Use the flat end of a spudger to pull the LCD screen plate up and completely separate it from the iPad body;
  18. Remove the LCD protective plate.
  19. Remove the following screws with a Phillips #00 screwdriver from the display cable bracket:
  • One 2.8mm screw;
  • Three 1.4 mm screws.
  1. Remove the display cable bracket from the iPad body.
  2. Use the flat tip of a spudger to carefully lift the battery connector out of its socket on the motherboard;
  3. Attention: lift only the battery connector, not the socket itself. If you touch the motherboard socket, you can completely break the connector.
  4. Use the tip of a spudger to pry the LCD connector up from its socket on the motherboard;
  5. Be careful not to touch the IC, otherwise you may break it. Hold it carefully on the connector side.
  6. Lift and detach the LCD from the iPad body.

Front Panel

  1. Using the tip of a spudger, lift the digitizer cable out of its socket connector.
  2. Insert the flat end of the spudger under the digitizer battery on the motherboard to begin to separate it from the back case.
  3. Raise the digitizer board.
  4. Raise the front bezel of the iPad.

Direct battery replacement for iPad mini 2

  1. There is a thin layer of adhesive between the battery and the iPad body that needs to be softened before attempting to separate the battery and the main body;
  2. Heat the thermal bag and place it in the center of the back of the iPad case;
  3. After about two minutes, remove it and place it on the right side of the iPad, which is furthest from the camera;
  4. For further manipulations, you will need special thin plastic cards, which will need to be moved between the battery and the back case of the iPad to remove the glue holding the battery in place. Make sure that the cards are perfectly straight to avoid bending the battery itself. Otherwise, the battery may be damaged and hazardous chemicals may leak;
  5. Turn the iPad over and insert the plastic card under the battery compartment, located closest to the motherboard and right speaker.
  6. If the resistance is too strong, you need to heat the thermal bag again and repeat the previous step to give the glue more time to soften;
  7. Remove the plastic card and insert it under the edge of the battery pack, located closer to the edge of the case;
  8. Insert the second plastic card under the battery block on the motherboard side next to the front camera;
  9. Remove and insert the second card under the battery near the headphone jack;
  10. Take both cards and slowly lift the battery pack about two inches away from the back case;
  11. Move it slowly and try not to bend the battery;
  12. Move the right card under the other battery;
  13. Move the left card under the other battery;
  14. Grasp both cards and use them to lift the battery completely;
  15. Remove the battery from the iPad.

Replacing the iPad 3 battery becomes necessary when the battery begins to overheat or fails due to failures in the gadget's hardware unit, problems in the system shell, manufacturing defects, or natural aging during use. Replacing the iPad 3 battery may be necessary due to the use of non-original charging modules, shock or moisture in the device.

How to replace the battery on iPad 3: practical instructions

In service centers, the price for the service “replacing the battery for iPad 3” varies within certain limits, but using your own knowledge and skills, for a procedure such as replacing the battery for iPad 3, it will be significantly reduced - you just need to purchase the necessary tools and modules.

Equipment

During the replacement you will need the following tools:

  • metal spatula;
  • Philips screwdrivers No. 00 and 0;
  • double-pointed spudger;
  • a set of picks of various thicknesses (6 pcs);
  • The opener is double-sided.

Required parts: new battery, adhesive replacement tapes for fastening.

For an operation such as replacing an iPad 3 battery, the price will be based on the cost of tools and spare parts necessary for the work.

Preparatory stage

Rules for heating the thermal bag

The thermal bag must be heated in a microwave oven, after cleaning it first, so that food residues do not stick to the heating pad. When heating, the bag should not touch the walls, otherwise its heating will be uneven and the product will be damaged. The heating pad warms up each time no longer than 30 seconds. Overheating leads to an explosion, and then the price for such an event as replacing the battery on an iPad 3 yourself will increase significantly.

Do not touch the bag if it looks swollen. Reheating is permitted after complete cooling. A properly heated product retains heat for up to 10 minutes. You need to move the bag by its flat edges, without touching the central hot part. You can use an oven mitt to avoid getting burned.

Preparing for disassembly

If there are cracks on the glass of the gadget, then replacing the iPad 3 battery is fraught with further cracking and the possibility of injury from it. To do this, it is covered with an overlap of adhesive film. This will keep the shards in place as you move the display body. Eyes must be protected with special glasses.

Process

  1. A thermal bag is placed on each side of the iPad in turn. While work is going on to open one face, the bag heats up the glue on the next one.
  2. There is a two-inch (about 5 cm) gap in the adhesive layer on the top right edge of the iPad. This vulnerability must be exploited to replace the battery on iPad 3. They start by inserting the blade of a double-sided opener into the gap. It may take some effort. The opener must be deepened slowly, carefully, moving it back and forth, controlling the process. Make sure you are going to insert the opener in the correct location between the plastic display frame (black/white) and the front panel glass.
  3. The tip of the opener, inserted between the front glass and the frame, must be held while one of the six picks, suitable in thickness, is inserted into the gap.
  4. Start opening the adhesive layer of one of the edges. To do this, slide the pick along the edge inside the gap. The sticky layer is very strong, you will have to apply some force, but this must be done carefully.
  5. If the tip of the pick becomes visible through the glass, you need to reduce the depth of its depth. Penetration that is too deep may cause adhesive residue to spread throughout the matrix.
  6. Before removing the first opening pick from the right slot, insert a second one into the open slot to prevent the adhesive layer from sticking together again.
  7. Move the pick along the gaps of each edge, cutting the glue, but without touching important modules: antenna assemblies, camera, cable to the display. Otherwise, the risky event of “replacing the iPad 3 battery yourself” will not only increase the price by several orders of magnitude, but the gadget itself may be completely damaged.
  8. When the entire sticky layer is cut, use the hand suction cup from the kit and mediators to separate the glass. This is done carefully, slowly, each time heating the perimeter with a thermal bag.
  9. After removing the glass, remove the film and use screwdrivers to unscrew the accessible screws. The matrix is connected by several cables, so it can only be lifted in the area of the camera using a spatula. The raised matrix is carefully turned on the wires and laid on a gentle, lint-free surface.
  10. The cable plug is unscrewed and opened, and the matrix body is removed.
  11. In order to replace the battery on the iPad 3 without causing damage, carefully disconnect the cable of the physical navigation key, remove the front panel, unscrew the necessary bolts, and disconnect the antenna, speaker, microphone, and case button modules. When disconnecting cables, force is applied by holding the connectors, not the wires.
  12. To remove the back cover and replace the battery on the iPad 3, you need to apply heating with a thermal bag again. The glue is softened very carefully. The motherboard is separated using mediators. You still need to make sure that delicate areas are not damaged; haste is not applicable here. All elements must be separated from the device one by one, layer by layer. Heating must be carried out constantly.

Battery change

  1. Once the battery is accessible, the plastic cards in the tool kit will help you remove it. Their use must be careful so that the battery body does not bend or become damaged, which could result in the release of toxic compounds. Before removing the battery, the adhesive layer is also heated. Manipulate the cards - while one of them holds the opened gap open, the second can open the next gap. The use of a metal spatula or battery opener will help in the work.

The iPad 3 battery is being replaced instead of the used one. All steps are repeated in reverse order to assemble the iPad.
