In order to configure what and when the accelerator should be turned off, we need to go to the second tab - “Utilities” and stop at the first tool - “Acceleration”:

The fourth tool is “Defragmenter”:

Unlike the system utility, the Razer Cortex defragmenter is designed to locally defragment files related to a particular installed game or program. All we need to do is highlight the desired game in the list (or add it to the list using the button below) and click the “Defrag” button.

These manipulations will lead to a reduction in the time it takes to search for game files on your hard drive (since they will be collected in one place), which will have a positive effect on the performance and loading speed of the selected game.

The “Drivers” tab, in theory, is designed to check the availability of new driver versions for your system and download them. But my download list was empty. Most likely this is due to the fact that I have the latest Windows 8.1 and the drivers are updated automatically.

By default, this function is active and allows you to display FPS (frames per second) values ​​in one of the corners of the screen during the game. This value characterizes the speed of drawing frames in the game and serves as one of the main indicators of the performance of both this program and other overclocking applications.

As an experiment, I ran S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky on medium settings with and without Razer Cortex boost enabled, and averaged 84 and 61 fps, respectively!

At the same time, I didn’t delve too deeply into the settings, limiting myself only to disabling resource-intensive background processes (service filtering settings, etc. remained by default), but I received a performance increase of 27%! I think that with a more total destruction of everything and everyone, it is quite possible to achieve an acceleration of up to 50%, and maybe even higher.

The last tool in this section is “Sync Saved Games”. With it you can automatically save backups game save files in the cloud service Dropbox. Naturally, to do this, you must first have created an account there, which you can connect on this tab.

Functions for recording screen video and taking screenshots of games

Razer Cortex copes quite adequately with its task of accelerating games, but the developers went further and introduced into the program the function of recording video from the screen and the ability to create screenshots! Moreover, it all works at the level of the same Fraps, but at the same time completely free!

To configure the above functions we need to go to the third tab of the toolbar - “Screencast”:

The first of two subsections will open, allowing you to take screenshots. Working space here it is divided into two parts: in the left section there are a few settings, and in the right section there are thumbnails of the screenshots you created.

The screenshot taking module is active by default and is launched by pressing the key combination “CTRL+ALT+P”. In the settings you can change this combination, as well as specify your own folder for storing images and their format (I recommend using PNG, since it provides much better lossless image compression than BMP (the default).

The only drawback when recording video is the rather high consumption of PC resources. So in normal game mode (without acceleration) the FPS averages about 60 frames/sec. dropped to 20-22 frames, that is, by almost 70%!!!

Therefore on weak computers I recommend writing the video with the acceleration mode active and not on high graphics settings of the game itself. Then everything turns out evenly and smoothly :). Yes... The FPS counter is not displayed when recording videos and on screenshots :(
