Several fairly simple operations, almost like Word

The operating procedure is quite simple and is not much different from working in the same text process from Microsoft - Word.

But the user has more than just a simple rectangular cropping path at his disposal. The outline can be anything. Moreover, you can even do an inversion - what falls inside the contour will become invisible.

To create a “broken” outline:

  1. After selecting the contour creation command, select the “Polygonal” mode.
  2. Next, we create a polygon from the image according to the usual AutoCAD rules.
  3. Once the polygon is closed, cropping will occur.

It is possible that the set snap mode will interfere with the process of creating a polygon. In this situation, the mode can be temporarily disabled in the status bar.

Canceling cropping (as the above operations are also called) is done by selecting the “Delete cropping” command in the “Cropping” panel for the selected image.

Command line option

The cropping operation on the command line corresponds to the “_imageclip” command. It is called up on some versions of the program through the “Modify” / “Clip” / “Image” menu (“Transforms” / “Crop” / “Image”). Here's how to use the command:

  1. First, a request to select an image appears, if this has not been done in advance, before running the “Select image to clip:” command.
  2. Then the general prompt “Enter image clipping option” appears :" - creating a new outline (New - accepted by default), deleting it and restoring the full view of the picture (Delete), temporarily disabling cropping (OFF - it remains, just temporarily not applied), turning on cropping again (ON).
  3. If the clipping construction mode is selected, then a request for its form “Enter clipping type” is displayed :". By default, it is proposed to use rectangular cropping - Rectangular, but you can also select polygonal - Polygonal.
  4. When selecting a rectangle, you will need to specify its upper left - lower right corners, and when selecting a polygon, specify its corners. The polygon is initially assumed to be closed, so the user does not require closing according to AutoCAD rules - we complete the construction by simply pressing Enter.

To work comfortably when creating a drawing, you need to know how to cut a line in AutoCAD and how to extend a line in AutoCAD. Using line editing is very convenient and fast; there is no need to draw a line until it intersects with another line, because it can be extended or trimmed if desired.

In the previous lesson, I talked about creating chamfers and rounding corners. Sometimes, due to bindings, it is not possible to draw a segment to the desired location, and that is when the “Cut” and “Extend” commands are required. Both of these operations are located in the “Editing” block.

Click on the command triangle and select “Crop”. Chose. The program will prompt you to select objects; instead, press the “Enter” button, the following dialog box will appear in the bottom panel.

By default, Line is selected. Now you can move the mouse cursor over the desired line, a small cross will appear at the cursor, and by clicking the mouse the line will be truncated. AutoCAD cuts the line to the nearest intersection point. The operation allows you to trim several lines at once; for this, the desired area is selected. To select an area, just press the left mouse button, bringing the courses to an empty space and, without releasing the button, select. As soon as you release the button, the line will be cut.

Thus, it is possible to trim several lines at once in AutoCAD.

Extending lines in AutoCAD occurs in the same way as cutting. The only difference is that the “Lengthen” command is selected, all other actions are performed the same way. Even if you mistakenly selected “Crop”, the situation can be corrected without pressing the “Enter” button, in the bottom panel, click on the checkbox next to the word “Crop” and select “Extend”, then press enter and extend the necessary lines.

In AutoCAD, you can extend several lines at once, in the same way as cutting them.

You can extend and trim not only straight lines and segments, but also circles, arcs and polylines.

The process of extending or trimming takes only a few seconds, and any number of lines can be changed in one operation. The ability to edit lines saves a lot of time and greatly simplifies the work of creating drawings.

And then I click LMB on the elements that I want to trim. Immediately after specifying an object, it is trimmed. You can finish trimming by pressing the "Enter" or "Esc" key. The cut objects can also be parts of the cutting edges themselves.

By the way, if, when selecting objects to be cropped, the selection is made with the “Shift” key pressed, then the objects will not be cropped, but lengthened.

When selecting objects to crop, you can use the following options:

✗ Line and Sekramka– allow you to select objects to be cropped using a temporary polyline and a cutting frame.


✗ Edge– turns on/off the mode of continuing the edge to an imaginary intersection.

When the mode is enabled, AutoCAD will trim in cases where the object being trimmed does not clearly intersect with the cutting edge. Whether this mode is enabled or not can be seen from the command line prompt when calling the “Crop” command in AutoCAD.

If it says “Edges = No Continue,” it means the mode is turned off. You can enable it before selecting the objects to be trimmed by entering the letter “C” into the command line (or simply from the keyboard).

✗ Cancel- an option that allows you to cancel cropping of the last object without completely canceling the execution of the entire command.

How to trim a line in AutoCAD

In order to cut lines in AutoCAD, there must be intersections of lines in your drawing. We will remove those parts of the lines that are not needed after the intersection.

1. Draw objects with intersecting lines, or open a drawing that contains them.

2. On the ribbon, select Home - Editing - Trim.
