Problem solved

Advantages: I don’t see anything more worthy for the money (6,300 rubles at the beginning of September). Lightweight for its size. Disadvantages: As has already been said, this is a phone for geeks. Or for those who have friends who are not afraid to flash their phones (we’re not talking about a banal update official firmware"by air"). Because The phone is only for the domestic market of China, then there are small problems with the Russian language - it is not there. Good Chinese friends from Ali send firmware with Russian, but it usually leaves much to be desired: in addition to incomplete translation, for example, my camera did not switch from internal to external. Well, and, accordingly, some difficulties with the purchase. Either order in China as usual at your own peril and risk (some people scare me with refurbished phones, for example, instead of standard ears with a flat wire, the seller put some kind of terrible crap, albeit with the Lenovo inscription), or overpay here for the opportunity to touch gray phone before purchase. The loose adapter from the Chinese power plug while charging is a little annoying (it can remain in the socket when pulled out by the main plug), but this is a small thing in the category of headphones that can be replaced. Lack of 900 MHz band for 3G. Many tried to change modems, even posted screenshots where the frequency appeared in the list of supported ones, but no one achieved real work. So forget about 900MHz and OTG - this was not stated by the manufacturer, and the phone does not have it. Be careful, in some places operators may not have the 2100 MHz band. Although I personally don’t care, I turn off 3G altogether. It seems that once it happened that the touch keys were stuck - they did not respond to pressing. I had to calibrate the position sensor. Not to say that it’s a trivial thing, you need to do it in the service menu on Chinese and be careful not to calibrate too much. Comment: What to do, what to do with the firmware? There is a corresponding thread on 4pda dedicated to this device. There are firmware and related information/software, and by searching you will find information about calibration. Personally, I recommend S129 firmware from Mannur. Before flashing the firmware, you need to flash a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP). I recommend doing this through the SP Flash Tool program on your PC (after installing the USB drivers for your phone). And then install the firmware you like through recovery. The battery is large enough, the device with normal firmware is quite economical. Overnight, 1% or even less leaks out. Those. behaves well in standby mode. But if you play heavy games - three hours. Regarding consumption, it’s better to read reviews; I didn’t specifically test anything. The screen, in principle, is bright enough to not go blind in the sun at all. Although the angles, of course, cannot be compared with the Amoled of the laptop 3, the money is also different. Size 6" is too big for wearing/holding, 5.5 would be a little more comfortable. In addition to holding it in your hands, there is the next issue - in my jeans pocket, and it’s not small; when squatting or bending, the length already rests against the thigh. I already I’m silent if headphones with a direct wire are plugged in. By the way, I replaced the wretched thing that was sent to me with a Sony MH750 with an L-shaped plug - a very decent option. But you don’t have to choose the size, but for movies and surfing it’s good. carry 64GB cards in the inner pockets of your outerwear. At least some of them (for example, Silicon Power ELITE microSDXC UHS Class 1). exFAT is not supported, with FAT32 on the phone the recording turned out to be ~4MB/s, and with NTFS it was the legal 10. But to support NTFS you need to install Paragon NTFS & HFS+. The dilemma crept up unnoticed - either crutches in the form of a paragon (it doesn’t always automatically pick up the card), or a completely dismal speed and file size limitation. Now, having quite quickly stopped tormenting the device for different firmware, I am certainly pleased with it.

Lenovo, having gained popularity in the Android phone market quite a long time ago, began releasing new gadgets at tremendous speed. Moreover, what is good news is that most of them passed our test and turned out to be quite good devices.

It is worth noting that the company sells its smartphones only in markets that have not yet fully matured (Russia is included in this number). That is, in the USA, you won’t be able to officially buy the company’s products, which I think doesn’t upset its residents too much, that is, the company’s products are aimed specifically at our market - our needs and the price of gadgets from Lenovo is generally quite “tasty”.

Description

Lenovo S939 is not available on the Russian market either. This is a completely new model based on the MTK MT5692 platform. At first glance, this is the most ordinary modern phablet, of which there are plenty on the market. The characteristics on paper look good, except that random access memory one gigabyte may not be enough to run fairly resource-intensive games or applications. But the battery here is installed “not for children”, but at as much as 3000 mAh, which of course is not a record figure, but should provide a solid life.

Design

Buying this device, You are getting classic monoblock tablet phone with a six-inch screen. At the bottom of the front panel there is a separate block of touch keys, that is, the control buttons will not be located directly on the screen and take away working space. But this approach has two disadvantages. The first disadvantage is that with this solution it is not very convenient to use the device in horizontal orientation (although no one bothers you to programmatically disable the “hard” buttons and enable the touch unit, which will be located directly on the screen). And the second disadvantage is that the buttons on this device are not backlit, which is not at all expected in a gadget worth 10 thousand rubles, and this cannot be corrected in software.

The back cover is made of plastic that is pleasant to the touch and has a matte structure. The quality of the materials is high, the parts fit almost perfectly. During operation, no creaks, no backlashes, or any other design flaws were detected.

Despite its enormous size, the device is quite ergonomic and fits comfortably in the hand (relative to competitors with the same screen, of course). So the weight and dimensions practically do not cause discomfort or inconvenience (except that this device will not fit into any pocket).

The design echoes appearance The company's recently released smartphones from the Vibe series have the same chrome edging that expands at the back. Personally, we really like this corporate style, especially in black.

There are also no surprises with the controls - the volume rocker and the lock button are located on the right, the audio jack is at the top, and the microUSB port is usually located at the bottom.

The back cover has some texture, which saves you from “cobwebs of scratches” and also prevents the phone from slipping in your hand. In the front panel, at the very top there is a slot with a grille for the speaker. Same as other devices this place especially susceptible to dust attacks, so you will have to clean it often.

The installation of the front camera is done quite neatly, without any traces. On the right side of it there are sensors responsible for lighting and proximity, as well as an LED indicator. Their quality is at a good level - it is regulated without jumps or false alarms, and the proximity sensor responds well to every call, without exception. The event indicator has two colors to notify about events and if an event is missed, it blinks once every three seconds.

The touch navigation keys, which were already discussed above, have a proprietary icon design style and, as I already said, are not backlit, which can have an unpleasant effect on the experience of using the phone in the dark.

The buttons (volume, screen lock) have a nice clear action. There is virtually no play in the keys, so the phone does not make rattle sounds. The main camera appears to be assembled quite well - no glue, dust, or any other unpleasant “finds” are visible under the lenses.

Speaker speakerphone is located on the back of the device and has primitive protection against muting, but due to the curvature of the case, it is practically not needed here. When removing back cover We are presented with a battery and slots for SIM cards and microSD. SIM card slots have their own peculiarity - only one works with 3G networks, while in the second this option is not implemented at all.

Display

As already mentioned, the smartphone is equipped with a six-inch diagonal and HD resolution (720x1280 pixels). The pixel density is 245 dots per inch, which is of course less than the threshold of 300 ppi, at which our eyes are no longer able to see the pixel ladder, but this value is quite enough for work. If you don’t focus your attention on this and don’t specifically look closely, then you won’t be able to see the pixel ladder.

The screen, as befits a modern gadget, has an oleophobic coating made using One Glass Solution technology - that is, without an air gap. The viewing angles of the display are typically maximum for IPS. There are color distortions when tilted, but their values are very small.

But with diagonal viewing angles, everything is not so rosy - the colors are inverted. The backlight is uniform across the entire surface of the display. The sensor can recognize up to ten simultaneous clicks.

It positions touches quite accurately, has virtually no false positives, and is generally quite pleasant to the touch. The maximum brightness of the device's screen is 530 nits, which is a very good result, especially for a device like this price category

. The contrast level is at the level of more expensive gadgets – 1000:1. Such indicators will be enough for you to read in direct sunlight on a hot day. Contrast remains high, even at low backlight settings. Already according to an unspoken tradition, Colorful temperature

new devices, for some reason goes beyond the “ideal” 6500K, which is why the image “smacks of cold.” The color gamut is very close to the sRGB standard, differing only slightly from it in the green color setting.

In general, we liked the screen - it is calibrated well, and the matrix itself is of quite high quality.

Performance and hardware The smartphone is based on the MTK6592 system. This processor runs at standard frequencies of 1.67 GHz – that is, this is a standard, not overclocked processor. By installing 2 gigabytes of memory, the company decided to save money by limiting itself to only one. This solution will not allow you to run many “heavy” applications at the same time or open a large number of

tabs in, but in general, under standard usage scenarios, such volumes should be enough for you.

As for performance, there are no surprises here - the results are quite comparable to those based on the same processor. This is a fairly powerful system, which will be enough for both normal use and for running games and resource-intensive applications.

To safely play the most modern 3V games, you will most likely need to “tighten up” the graphics settings. Even under the heaviest load, the phone behaves quite stably, does not heat up, does not freeze or freeze.

As mentioned at the beginning, there is a 3000 mAh battery installed here. Despite this capacity, the battery does not have impressive dimensions or heavy weight. Full charge with standard charger at 1.5 Amps it will take you about two and a half hours. Charging from USB port it may take you all night.

In Antutu, the battery was able to show a result of 506 points, which is a good indicator. And the standard test for video playback in HD resolution was completed only after eight hours.

This is how it turns out that before us , capable of showing pretty good results in battery life. Of course, you won’t be able to play 3B games all day long, but with moderate use of the gadget it will definitely last you for a couple of days.

Camera

The camera interface has a proprietary style from Lenovo, which really won’t stop you from installing the shooting application you’re used to on your own, especially since not so long ago an official camera from “pure” Android appeared.

The main camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and produces quite high-quality images, especially in good lighting. Also, the optics hold backlight well, and the quality of detail is on par. high level. The module copes well with macro photography, but during night photography it “catches bunnies” from light sources, often purple ones.

In poor lighting, detail decreases, “soapiness” increases and the quality of images deteriorates, which is, in principle, quite expected. In general, the camera does its job quite well and shows excellent results for a mid-priced smartphone.

As for the front module, it copes well with the tasks assigned to its shoulders - it transmits high-quality images during video calls, and also takes quite acceptable selfies, and nothing more is required from it.

conclusions

The next device from Lenovo once again leaves only positive impressions about itself after meeting it. The company magically manages to select the ideal price/quality ratio and play on it as if on its own field.

Lenovo S939 is a fairly balanced device that will not leave anyone indifferent. The gadget has a laconic and at the same time memorable design, good quality screen, a powerful platform for this segment and can provide a long time battery life with moderate use. The build quality and materials are at a high level. It should also be noted good camera and low price.

The most surprising thing is that there is no serious fault with the device, except perhaps that the manufacturer decided to equip the gadget with only a gigabyte of RAM instead of two, but in this segment this is normal practice and it would be wrong to write this down as a minus - the presence of additional RAM would be a nice-to-have option rather than an urgent necessity.

Yes, the device will definitely not become a bestseller, but nevertheless it is one of the most prominent options in its price segment.

Pros of the device:

  • Good materials and excellent quality body assemblies;
  • Good display matrix;
  • Availability of two SIM card slots and microSD support;
  • Good performance on one battery charge;
  • High performance (as for its class) and very stable operation even at maximum load;
  • Quite a low price.

Disadvantages of the device:

  • The navigation keys are not backlit;
  • The presence of only one gigabyte of RAM (as mentioned above, this is not entirely a minus, the device works great even with this amount, but it could work better).

    Lenovo is pleased with the attention paid to the development of sound quality in this model. I’ll say this about the sound quality itself, in the car I only listened to CDs with the original sound, I couldn’t even think about any MP3s, but the joke is that the same MP3s from Lenova via AUX are perceived quite decently, now new products that I have not yet purchased in lossless are listened to in mp3. When the navigator is turned on, the sound of music via AUX does not drown out the speaker's voice. There is one moment when you turn on the jack, the volume level becomes 50% and you need to manually raise it to 100%, that’s the moment. Size is an advantage, for example, when the navigator is turned on, and also when viewing pages. Fast GPS. I won’t write about the powerful processor; it’s no longer a secret to anyone. The display image quality is good. Battery life pleased me in terms of duration and hell

    On the touchscreen, a strip about 1 cm wide just below the middle of the screen failed. Before this I used it for about 10 months. I read that some people are also experiencing the same problems.

    Sometimes it reboots on its own (in 4 months of use it happened 2 times)
    -Consequence of the absence of sales in Russia Russification flaws (only in the settings menu and very few)
    -Sometimes there is not enough RAM
    -The cover at the top of the phone is a little loose (sort of like a floating defect)

    It seems that it is not yet officially supplied to the Russian Federation (there is no company guarantee, support, normal Russification, etc.);
    - Standard firmware Russian-English-Chinese. But you can live;
    - I do not recommend updating via the official built-in upgrade. A new version English-Chinese. It will become impossible to use at all!

    Using with pasted protective film not flawlessly, as for example on the Samsung Note4 they react to key touches, again I haven’t tried it without film, since a larger screen diagonal has a greater chance of being damaged.

Smartphones with large screen diagonals are increasingly gaining a place in the sun. The desires of the consumer to comfortably watch videos, work with documents, surf the Internet, play games on their mobile phone are being responded to in the lines of devices from leading manufacturers, and more and more models with a 6-inch display size are appearing on sale. If you believe the reviews of users of the portal about Chinese mobile phones China-review, more than 20 percent of its readers want to buy a device with a large display. Today we provide you with a review of the Lenovo S939 phablet from one of the leaders in the global mobile phone market, Lenovo.

Characteristics

Lenovo's "S" series designates a line designed primarily for entertainment and multimedia, and in such tasks, large screen sizes are a definite advantage. But if we ignore the large diagonal of the display of the hero of our review and study its technical characteristics, the Lenovo S939 is quite a typical mid-ranger.

RAM:

Built-in memory:

Battery:

83.5 x 161.5 x 8.65 mm

First of all, in the description of the smartphone’s parameters, two points attract attention. A RAM capacity of 1 GB today is more typical for budget devices and may turn out to be too small in demanding applications, especially games. But this smartphone has a high-performance eight-core MediaTek MTK6592 processor, which promises excellent system performance under heavy load.

The battery has a good capacity, allowing us to hope that it will be able to successfully cope with the appetites of a voracious high-frequency and multi-core processor.

In general, we can say that the popularity of this solution will depend on its price. Lenovo is not used to abusing the excessive price of its devices, and even after its appearance on the market at the beginning of the year, the model managed to drop in price considerably. As of November 2014, you can buy a Lenovo S939 for approximately 3,000 UAH, which is 188 US dollars. This cost for a model with such parameters seems quite reasonable to us.

Description

The Lenovo S939 package package can be called quite good for the price of the device. Carefully and tightly packed in a neat light gray box are the following accessories and instructions:

Charger with adapter for European sockets;

USB cable;

Instructions in Chinese;

Cheap black headphones;

Protective film for the screen.

None on the box itself additional information You won’t find anything about the phone’s characteristics other than the model name.

In your hands, the Lenovo S939 seems simply huge. Large mobile phones are usually called "shovels", but it is with the six-inch model that you begin to fully understand the meaning of this word. If we compare it with the 5.3-inch or , which we reviewed the other day, the difference of half an inch of diagonal in practice turns out to be very noticeable for the user. It’s simply not very convenient to hold the model with one hand, not to mention any active use, even despite the small thickness of the case. This mobile phone clearly designed for two hands.

In terms of design, the Lenovo S939 is the usual “black brick” for this manufacturer, neat, convenient, but not memorable. The frames around the sensor are quite wide, but given the overall size of the device, you don’t pay attention to this. Just enough space is allocated below and above the screen to accommodate all interface elements.

Above the display there is a speaker grille, to the right of it - front-camera and then sensors and an event indicator. Below the touchscreen there are three standard touch buttons “Menu”, “Home” and “Back”, brightly highlighted, but, unfortunately, not backlit.

On the right side there is a volume control key and below it is a smartphone power button.

A headphone jack sits alone on top.

The left side of the smartphone is empty.

And at the bottom there is a micro-USB connector.

The back cover is made of plastic that is pleasant to the touch with small notches, thanks to which fingers do not slip on it while using the device. The window of the main camera protrudes slightly above its surface. There is also a flash LED and a microphone hole on the sides of the camera. The external speaker is located at the bottom of the cover. To prevent it from fitting tightly to the surface, there is a small protrusion in the middle of its grille.

Under the back cover you can see the battery characteristics in Chinese, and also make sure that this mobile phone supports two full-size SIM cards (only one can work in 3G mode), and also has a slot for a micro-SD flash drive.

In the last review, we pointed out flaws in the assembly, which consisted in a loose fit of the back cover. Lenovo S939 is free of these problems, the smartphone is built to perfection. The model does not bend or creak when pressed or twisted, and the battery compartment cover fits into place like a glove.

Screen

The LenovoS939 display has a diagonal of 6", HD resolution 1280x720 pixels and is made using IPS technology. We liked the quality of the resulting image. The viewing angles cannot be called record-breaking, but they are very good. The color rendition is pleasing to the eye. Automatic brightness adjustment is available and works correctly, and there is a reserve of maximum brightness will be quite enough for working with a mobile phone on a sunny day.
It is not clear whether there is an air gap between the touchscreen and the matrix, but the image is really bright, contrasty and makes a very good impression.
The display supports multi-touch for 10 simultaneous touches.

Iron

In Lenovo S939, the manufacturer did not skimp on the fast platform, installing in this model an eight-core MediaTek MTK6592 processor with a frequency of 1.7 GHz. It’s even more strange why, with such good characteristics Lenovo decided to equip the CPU with this smartphone with just one gigabyte of RAM. After all, where the processor will cope without problems, such a small amount of it can become a bottleneck (primarily we are talking about games, but for some other tasks this can also be important).

In the synthetic Antutu benchmark test, the Lenovo S939 scored an excellent 28,800 points, and there were no performance problems during normal use of the phone. But the clear imbalance between processor power and the amount of RAM is striking.

The Lenovo S939 has 8 GB of memory, of which slightly less than 5 GB is available to the user.

Other options

The sound of the Lenovo S939 can hardly be called outstanding. Volume external speaker is at an average level, as is the sound purity. The same applies to the 3.5" audio output when using the included headphones. Perhaps expensive headphones This could change the situation somewhat.

But we were pleased with the quality wireless modules. Both Wi-fi and GPS worked without any problems and deserve the best reviews.

Camera

The front camera with a resolution of 1.6 Megapixels is installed in the Lenovo S939 clearly for show, however, it is quite possible to communicate on Skype with its help. But the 8-megapixel main camera module was a pleasant surprise. Despite not the most high resolution matrices, Lenovo camera The S939 demonstrated very decent quality of both photos and videos. The camera app interface has it all necessary settings, allowing you to improve the final images, such as light sensitivity parameters, white balance, various “decorations” and special effects. For its price, the picture from the Lenovo S939 is quite decent, but for serious photography it is still better to buy a separate camera.

When shooting indoors, you can try playing with the ISO settings to reduce noise and movement, or use a flash.

The maximum video resolution is Full HD1980x1088, there is autofocus, but you cannot select the focus point during shooting.

Firmware

The Lenovo S939 has already been reviewed many times Android firmware 4.2.2 with interface Lenovo launcher. This launcher slightly changes the standard appearance of Android, for example, there is no main program menu, which usually appears when you press the central button. But otherwise, everything is logical and familiar; users of other firmware are unlikely to feel any inconvenience when switching to devices from Lenovo.

During all tests, the firmware worked without problems, with one unpleasant exception. Very often, while opening several windows in the browser, it simply closed with an error message. In reviews of this model on forums, we have seen this problem mentioned more than once. Most likely, it can be cured by updating the firmware, but we still have a small unpleasant aftertaste from such a flaw.

Battery

The LenovoS939 battery is removable and has a capacity of 3000 mA*hours, which with this powerful processor and the screen size does not seem out of place at all. Usually Lenovo firmware are well optimized for energy saving, and the Lenovo S939 was also able to please here: with active use of the Internet, launching videos, tests, and the GPS and Wi-fi modules turned on, the smartphone was discharged by barely 15 percent in a couple of hours.

Measurements in the Antutu tester battery benchmark gave a result of 5707 points. With such indicators, there is every chance to hope that even with active use, the smartphone will quietly live all day until the evening, when it needs to be recharged.

conclusions

Inexpensive smartphones with a screen diagonal of 6 inches are becoming increasingly popular in the world, and Lenovo definitely has something to offer its fans in this segment. The Lenovo S939 phablet we are considering today, although it does not have enough stars in the sky, is quite a noteworthy model with good hardware characteristics and a reasonable price. To be completely happy, she only needs 2 GB of RAM (which can’t be fixed) or more stable operation browser (which is completely curable).

If you want to buy yourself a large mobile phone without spending too much money, the Lenovo S939 is well worth considering.
