Lenovo Vibe Shot review - a stylish camera phone. Lenovo Vibe Shot review - stylish camera phone Appearance and usability

New models appear on the global smartphone market almost every day. Among them there are twins, which may differ only in the amount of memory or display size. And there are absolute unique ones, which, despite the theme, seem typical, but remain individual in their manifestation. Such a model at one time was the smartphone Lenovo Vibe Shot. Despite the fact that he is already 2 years old, he is still one of the leaders in the series of camera phones.

Package

At one time, the company had a signature design direction, which, for example, was applied to the K900 model. The Lenovo Vibe Shot Z90 also had an almost identical box. The black lid was made of thick cardboard and had a soft-touch finish. The bottom had a bright red color, which was very attractive and unusual. There was almost no information on the packaging. The manufacturer's logo is modestly placed in the front corner, and a barely noticeable model name is around the entire perimeter.

The package also turned out to be rich. It cannot be said that this is a feature of the company, since some models are completely deprived even of a headset. But specifically in this box, you could even find a case for Lenovo Vibe Shot. Of course, it was only in the form of a “bumper”, and even got the usual transparent plastic. But this was done on purpose, and for what - we will find out later.

Among other things, the box contains a compact unit charger, a micro-USB cable, there is also a branded stereo headset, which supposedly has tangle-free wires due to their flat section. Although in practice, of course, not everything is so good. Lenovo Vibe Shot Z90 has not lost a set of instructions, as well as a key for the card tray.

Design

You can talk about this forever. Design is not the most important feature of a smartphone, but the second most important after the camera. The model turned out to be stylish, expensive and beautiful. The phone also received cool body colors. The red-black version looks especially good. Making a review on Lenovo Vibe Shot, you can see the similarity in design with the previous model Lenovo Vibe X2. It is immediately clear that the company listened to the reviews about this model and decided to embody all the most beautiful in the new one.

The camera phone began to look even more expensive. Around the usual multi-colored stripes were replaced with a monolithic metal frame. Its surface is matte and slightly rough. It is convenient that it does not slip, it does not leave fingerprints and scratches are not visible. Thanks to her, the smartphone is perfectly held with one hand.

The main element that attracts attention is the back side. It is made of a glass panel, a small part of it has received a landscape orientation, painted in a different color, and there is a camera on it. So the manufacturer decided to pay attention to the specification of the model, thereby drawing attention to the smartphone.

To make the novelty even more reminiscent of a camera, a camera shutter button was placed on the side face. The variant is rarely found in phones, which once again reminds of the positioning of the model.

In general, all the materials that were used for the case are of very high quality. With this, the company has never had problems, even with respect to budget models. The case turned out to be monolithic, strong, without any gaps and backlashes.

Smartphone Lenovo Vibe Shot dimensions are moderate. The display is small compared to the now popular 5.5-inch screens. But the mass makes the phone weighty, but that's not bad. Plus, given the metal frame and glass back, that weight is to be expected. In general, in terms of dimensions, everything is quite balanced. The smartphone looks great in both female and male hands.

Element base

Making a review on Lenovo Vibe Shot, it is worth mentioning the comfortable arrangement of elements on the case. As already mentioned, the smartphone has a monolithic design, the back cover is not removable. It has only a camera, a flash and a company logo.

The display is 5 inches in front. Above it is the front camera and earpiece. Under the screen there are touch service buttons: "Home", "Menu" and "Back".

On the left side there are two trays: one with a memory card, the second - for two SIM cards. This option is very profitable and the truth is rare. Despite the rather thin body, here the manufacturer managed to fit both trays, which many lack, especially with the recent hybrid slot fashion.

The right end is even more busy: there is a volume rocker, a screen lock and a camera button. Also next to the latter is a small slider responsible for shooting modes: automatic or manual. This option is definitely rare in smartphones. Some models are completely devoid of even a key for shooting. On the other hand, such generosity is justified by the positioning of the model.

By the way, another rather attractive advantage is that, thanks to the frame, the phone can be set in a horizontal position, using the table surface as a tripod. The keys on the end turned out to be not very protruding, but it is easy to feel them, and their stroke, although felt, is smooth.

The lower end of the case is occupied by a connector for the charger, and two external speaker grilles are located on the sides of it. More precisely, one of them corresponds to such an option, and under the second, as usual, a conversational microphone is hidden. There is a headphone jack on the top, and next to it is an additional noise-canceling microphone.

As mentioned earlier, there are several colors of the phone case. One of them is represented by Lenovo Vibe Shot White. Although he himself has a snow-white color, his frame received a slightly shading tone, reminiscent of a slightly steel shade. There is also a black version, which received a dark gray frame. The most attractive black and red version. By the way, it has become the most popular among buyers.

Display

Lenovo Vibe Shot display characteristics received the usual for this price category, besides, considering that we still have a camera phone in front of us, this element of the phone does not have any frills. The sensor paired with the IPS-matrix is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. According to the manufacturers, it protects against scratches, but it is always better to buy an additional film on the screen. The display is 5 inches and the resolution is Full HD. The dot density in the final result is 401.

The frame around the screen turned out to be not particularly attractive, especially at the present time, when developers are trying in every possible way to reduce its area. On the sides, it is approximately 4 millimeters, and at the bottom, almost 2 centimeters. If the manufacturer had worked better on these parameters, the case could have been more elegant.

The overall brightness is also quite good for all the above parameters. It can be installed both manually and using auto-configuration. The last mode works due to the ambient light sensor. The sensor accepts up to 10 touches. Near the speaker there is a proximity sensor to the ear, at which the screen goes blank, but this, of course, is not a novelty, but just a nice addition. The screen "wakes up" from a double tap.

The anti-glare properties of the display are quite good. There is no air gap between the layers. In this case, with very bright lighting, everything is clearly visible on the screen, but if it is damaged, then repairs are very expensive. The display surface is protected by an oleophobic coating, which is now very fashionable due to its oil-repellent properties.

The Lenovo Vibe Shot has good viewing angles. The colors change, if at all, very little. The hues are also not inverted. The color balance is not always correct. But in the settings you can change modes and set natural colors.

sound

The next step is to move on to the sound. This option turned out to be quite good for the phone. The sound quality is quite high both through the external speaker and through the headset. The sound is clear, bright, rich, both bass and high frequencies. The volume, although not super-powerful, is enough on average. The speaker does not distort the voice of the interlocutor. Basically like a microphone.

To play music, you can use the built-in player from Google Play music. There you can adjust the sound in the equalizer. The radio is also available in this smartphone, it can work with or without a headset. In addition, there is the possibility of recording programs.

Communication

Lenovo Vibe Shot phone is equipped with all possible sensors. It supports 2G and 3G networks, as well as five LTE variants. The reception of various signals is stable, no gaps and other things were observed. If there were models from this manufacturer that often stopped working indoors or in other areas of poor signal reception, then this option functioned correctly everywhere.

There are many network opportunities here: there is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, as well as all kinds of world systems of the GPS, Glonass and Beidou navigation module. Through the OTG cable, you can install a device with a USB connector. The only thing missing here is NFC.

Interesting in the smartphone support for Smart Dial technology, which searches for contacts by phone book while dialing. Swype continuous text input is also available.

Two SIM cards work correctly, do not overlap each other. Both are in active standby mode, but they do not function at the same time, since only one radio module is available. For easy use, you can assign one of the cards as the main one for certain tasks: calls, messages or the Internet. You can also select them at the time of the call.

Both cards can serve for high-speed data transfer in the network, while supporting 3G (4G) networks. This option is pleasant, given that in early models, you had to install a SIM card in a special slot if you needed internet.

Performance

Smartphone Lenovo Vibe Shot received good characteristics. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor which has 8 cores. The platform has a bit depth of 64 bits, and a technology in which the Cortex-A53 processor cores are adjacent. Snapdragon 615 is the second generation, which has improved the core frequency to 1650 MHz, respectively, this is the most powerful solution among peers. It is made according to the 28 nm process technology. It cannot be said that this processor is powerful, it rather occupies the “golden” mean.

Responsible for graphics Adreno 405, which operates at a frequency of 550 MHz. There is more than enough RAM for simultaneous execution a large number tasks. Only 3 GB. Internal memory as much as 32 GB, of which 23 GB is free. Just as mentioned earlier, there is support for a memory card. This choice of the manufacturer is understandable, given that the camera phone will require a lot of memory, especially when taking pictures in high resolution.

Performance testing shows a good result, which, in principle, was to be expected. The platform has proven its average stable category. But if we remember that the frequency indicators of this processor were increased compared to the first generation, then the result turned out to be worthy. In AnTuTu, the phone scored 36k points, while GeekBench 3 tests gave values of 727/2590.

shell

For Lenovo Vibe Shot firmware has been presented version of Google Android LolliPop, which is already outdated by 2017. Lenovo Vibe UI has become a proprietary shell. It practically does not differ from the standard one, which at that time was popular in all Chinese models.

The main thing that stood out was the catchy design, a lot of add-ons that phones from this company have always been famous for. Moreover, half of the available technologies are not even known to everyone, let alone used. The fonts turned out to be small and narrow, although this is all corrected by the settings.

Also available are many different wallpapers, branded "chips". But there is still no rest from regular software. They are here, as usual, a wagon and a small cart. Some of them can still be removed, some can only be demolished by flashing. Half, as usual, is not used by the average user. But in general, they are quite usable and useful.

I was also pleased that for Lenovo Vibe Shot, the firmware of the proprietary shell “comes through the air”, which means that you can expect a more optimized system operation, getting rid of bugs and other shortcomings.

Zest

Well, the “icing on the cake” of this smartphone was the camera. Given the powerful marketing campaign, it is difficult to objectively analyze the disadvantages and advantages of the lens. But still, it’s worth trying and, in the end, figuring out whether the phone’s lens is so good or, as the people say, is it a “lure” from Lenovo?

The front camera is already pleasing with numbers: it received 8 megapixels, which will especially appeal to selfie lovers. The main one is equipped with a 16 megapixel sensor. For 2015, when this phone appeared, the option is very good for the middle price segment.

The front camera of Lenovo Vibe Shot is, in principle, simple. It does not have autofocus, but there are interesting modes: you can retouch a portrait, remove skin roughness, and various defects. The results of the software "Photoshop" can be observed immediately, before pressing the capture button.

Of course, these modes do not work as perfectly as on a computer. In some cases, they greatly distort the face. Nevertheless, you should not make a camera phone also an image editing platform. Next, there is a non-existent flash function for front camera. As a result, the screen is filled with light, slightly better illuminating the face. Now this function has become very popular, although in practice it can not even come close to replacing the flash.

The main camera is interesting. She received laser autofocus, which responds faster to the subject. There is also a triple LED flash. This choice at first raised questions, because often there was enough lighting for two LEDs. But as practice has shown, such a choice made it possible to get rid of a pale face and improved color balance.

Many users were pleased with the optical stabilization, which works correctly. The viewfinder is not burdened with unnecessary elements, it is simple and attractive. The menu has everything you need for manual tuning. All available icons are filled brief description for amateur photographers. There are quite familiar standard options.

The manual setting is also very comfortable and wide. Those who are at least a little versed in photography will find here the setting of white balance, ISO, exposure compensation, shutter speed and more. Despite all the same, some inaccuracies in manual mode, it is worth noting the fairly correct operation of the automatic mode. He selects the parameters successfully, the only thing is that you want to devote more time to focus, you can really get interesting pictures with him.

Competitor

Since we have a Lenovo Vibe Shot 32Gb camera phone in front of us, and its main feature is the camera, it is worth comparing with approximately the same competitor. Most often, this phone is opposed to the LG G4. This model comes with a 16 MP camera, but is not positioned as a camera phone. The lens takes excellent pictures, they are sharp around the entire perimeter, have good detail, as well as a rich, contrasting, and most importantly, natural picture.

In the end, as the comparison of both cameras shows, our Lenovo Vibe Shot gets good reviews for good reason. The camera does not always work adequately in the dark: comparatively, the LG G4 makes the photo dark. Autofocus in the room gets lost at times.

Its main advantage is software processing, which, although not fully implemented, is still a nice addition. The laser focus also works quickly, the lens transmits natural colors, a detailed picture. The resolution is also decent. Although if we recall the stronger model Nokia Lumia 1020, this camera phone does not make photos fundamentally high quality or unusual.

The camcorder can also record in the highest resolution Full HD. Here again, the presence of a slot for a memory card is useful. Since just one minute in this mode will cost you about 140 MB.

Lenovo Vibe Shot z90-7 review. This is truly a one-of-a-kind smartphone with a glass body, which is significantly different from most mobile devices presented by Lenovo.

Equipment

The box with the smartphone also contains: a charger with a microUSB cable, a clip to remove the trays for a memory card and a SIM card, a high-quality wired headset, a plastic cover for back cover, warranty cards and a set of documentation.

Specifications

The "heart" of the device is an 8-core Snapdragon processor 615 1.7 GHz with 3 gigabytes of RAM and 32 gigabytes of internal memory. There is also a separate slot for microSD cards. The Adreno 405 video chip is responsible for the graphics.

The resolution of the 5-inch display is 1920 x 1080 pixels. The matrix is of high quality, with large viewing angles. Screen covered protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Separately, I would like to note the cameras in the device.

The image quality of the front camera is perhaps one of the best, and the main camera shoots at a level approaching the top modern devices, but not ideal.

The phone has two slots for SIM cards that do not overlap with a memory card, which means that you do not have to choose between a second SIM card or microSD, as is the case with many modern devices. The smartphone is capable of working in networks 2G, 3G and 4

The smartphone looks very beautiful and harmonious. If from the front he looks like most modern smartphones, the sides and back are what makes it unique.

On the front side there are: proximity and light sensors, an event indicator, a front camera, a 5-inch display, as well as three control buttons that are visible only when the button backlight is on.

The back side is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which makes the surface mirror-like, but at the same time very prone to fingerprints. All elements of the back side are concentrated on a stylish strip placed on the right side. It has the company logo, a tri-color flash, and a 16-megapixel camera with laser autofocus.

The side faces of the smartphone are made of metal.

The right side is richest in elements. It has: a power button, a volume rocker, a button for switching shooting modes (automatic and pro), as well as a separate button for taking photos.

On the right side there are trays for SIM cards and a memory card.

Headphones are connected via the audio input, which is located on the top edge, there is also a microphone.

Despite the fact that Lenovo Vibe Shot was released at the end of 2015, it still remains relevant and in demand. The smartphone copes with any task, whether it be games, applications, navigation or general phone calls. More useful information about this device you can learn from additional materials.

Image camera phone with average characteristics

Launched this spring at MWC 2015 in Barcelona, the Lenovo Vibe Shot occupies an unusual position among Lenovo's broad and diverse family of mobile devices. On the one hand, this device is not a flagship in terms of its characteristics, but on the other hand, Lenovo Vibe Shot stands apart even among similar models of the middle category, since it has a clear positioning as a camera phone, as its name eloquently indicates.

This additional "specialization" allowed the company to set a higher price for this device than for competing solutions with similar characteristics, but not having such a pronounced "photographic" focus. But is it really that good? new smartphone Lenovo to carry the title of "camera phone", and is it ready to compete in this matter with the true flagships of the modern market, which have already proven their worth in terms of photo and video shooting? You will learn about all this from the new review. unusual smartphone called Lenovo Vibe Shot.

Equipment

Smartphone Lenovo Vibe Shot comes on sale in a stylishly designed package. Two-color flat box with a combination of black top and red bottom is made of solid cardboard. The box is elongated, so that all the accessories are laid out in the same plane, and the size of the package is minimal in height.

Lenovo, unlike many modern manufacturers, does not skimp on the packaging of its mobile products. An impressive set of accessories consists of a compact 1.5A charger, a nice-looking flat Micro-USB connection cable, a wired stereo headset with a tangle-free flat wire and in-ear rubber ear pads, a screen protector and even a plastic case. The cover is hard, translucent, they tried to make it so that it does not overshadow the beauty of the body of the device itself. We have already seen all this in another fashion model Lenovo Vibe X2. Naturally, they did not forget to invest in the kit and the key to extract the cards. The hero of the review is equipped very seriously, the first opening of the box immediately sets you in the most favorable way for further acquaintance with the device.

Appearance and usability

Lenovo Vibe Shot looks stylish, expensive and simply beautiful, there is practically nothing to complain about here, one can only admire. The novelty strongly resembles in appearance another fashion model of the same manufacturer, Lenovo Vibe X2, which at one time captivated the imagination of lovers of stylish gadgets. At the same time, the Vibe Shot looks even more serious and more expensive: the multi-colored cheerful stripes from the sides have disappeared, and a monolithic all-metal impressive frame has come in their place. The frame does not shine in the sun, the metal surface here is matte, slightly rough, not at all slippery and not easily soiled. Due to it, the smartphone is very securely held in the hand.

But even more interesting here is the back of the device. On the one hand, this is a simple glass panel, like many modern smartphones. But on the other hand, as soon as the designers painted it in landscape orientation and added a strip of a different color, the device really began to look like a camera. The solution is very interesting, and certainly not hackneyed. To give even more resemblance to the camera, on the upper edge in the corresponding place under the right index finger, a hardware camera shutter button was placed, and a wrist strap mount was installed in one of the corners of the case. The mount looks unusual for a smartphone and is more like that of a real camera.

There are no complaints about the choice of materials and the assembly itself, everything is done on highest level, cracks, deflections or squeaks of individual parts were not noticed. The monolithic case is made in the monoblock form factor, there are no removable parts. A five-inch smartphone is quite small in size, if you count by modern standards, especially given its very small thickness. The mass of the device is not so small, but in general everything together looks and feels quite organic. Naturally, mobile device with such a noticeable stylish appearance, it will suit both the male part of users and the female part. Moreover, the device does not look large or bulky in the hand.

All cards are usually installed in the side slots on the case, where they are inserted on a metal sled. Up to two Micro-SIM cards can be installed on one sled, the second separate slot is intended only for microSD memory cards. It's nice to see that, unlike many other manufacturers, the developers from Lenovo have found enough space even in such a thin and medium-sized body to accommodate two SIM cards and a memory card at the same time. Here the user does not have to compromise, choosing between a second SIM card or a memory card.

On the opposite side of the various elements, there are also more than usual. Here, in addition to the usual volume and lock keys, there are also specific control buttons for the camera. The key is responsible for releasing the shutter, and the slider switches shooting modes between automatic and manual.

Such a set of additional hardware switches is unusual for most smartphones, but given the specialization of the device, its functionality as a camera phone, this approach is quite justified. It is worth noting that due to the flat side frame without rounding and the absence of protruding elements on the opposite side, the device can stand on its side on a hard surface even without a tripod. That is, you can put your smartphone in landscape orientation on a table, balustrade, etc., and thus shoot.

The side keys themselves are not very large, they barely protrude beyond the surface, it is quite difficult to feel them blindly, but they look very good on a beautiful body and do not spoil the overall picture. And it is quite possible to get used to the short stroke of the buttons over time.

The camera module on the back of the smartphone also does not protrude beyond the surface. Next to the camera window is an LED flash, assembled from three multi-colored elements. Below it you can see a small dark window of an infrared transmitter for automatic focusing of the camera. The flash can work as a flashlight. It should be noted that with all its three LED elements, it does not shine so brightly. In any case, the flash in NTS smartphones is clearly more powerful and brighter than this one.

On the front side with all the elements too full order: on top, in addition to sensors, there is an event indicator, and at the bottom, touch-sensitive hardware buttons are equipped with customizable backlighting.

The connectors are habitually located at the ends of the device: at the top there is an audio output for headphones with a diameter of 3.5 mm, at the bottom there is a universal Micro-USB connector that supports connection external devices in OTG mode. Here, on the sides of the connector, one can observe two symmetrical gratings made in the form of an array of small round holes.

As it often happens, only through one of them does the sound come out of the speaker, and the second is a props (or a conversational microphone is hidden behind it). The second auxiliary microphone, which serves for noise reduction purposes, is located on the upper end.

The smartphone is available in three familiar body colors: in addition to solid black and white, there is also a mixed red and black color, which looks, perhaps, the most impressive. In this case, only the color of the side metal frame is red, and the front and back panel still remain black.

Screen

Smartphone Lenovo Vibe Shot is equipped with a touch IPS-matrix, combined with a flat protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass 3, resistant to scratches. The screen dimensions are 62 × 110 mm, the diagonal is 5 inches. The resolution reaches Full HD (1920 × 1080 pixels), respectively, the dot density is 401 ppi.

The frame around the screen unexpectedly turned out to be quite wide: from the sides from the edge of the screen to the edge of the case, its width is at least 4 mm, and the upper and lower parts are 18 mm each. If these parameters were smaller, the case could be made even more elegant in size, because the screen here is not one of the largest.

To adjust the brightness level, you can use automatic adjustment based on the operation of the ambient light sensor, there is also the possibility of smooth manual adjustment. Multi-touch technology allows you to process up to 10 simultaneous touches. There is a proximity sensor that blocks the screen when you bring the smartphone to your ear. The screen can be activated by double tapping on the glass, it is possible to work with the screen with gloves.

A detailed examination using measuring instruments was carried out by the editor of the sections "Monitors" and "Projectors and TV" Alexey Kudryavtsev. Here is his expert opinion on the screen of the test sample.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, resistant to scratches. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are noticeably better than the screen of the Google Nexus 7 (2013) (hereinafter simply Nexus 7). For clarity, here is a photo in which a white surface is reflected in the off screens (on the left is Nexus 7, on the right is Lenovo Vibe Shot, then they can be distinguished by size):

The screen on the Lenovo Vibe Shot is a bit darker (brightness from photos is 94 versus 106 for the Nexus 7). The ghosting of reflected objects in the Lenovo Vibe Shot screen is very weak, which indicates that there is no air gap between the screen layers (more specifically, between the outer glass and the LCD matrix surface) (OGS type screen - One Glass Solution). Due to the smaller number of boundaries (glass / air type) with very different refractive indices, such screens look better in conditions of strong external illumination, but their repair in the event of a cracked outer glass it is much more expensive, since you have to change the whole screen. On the outer surface of the screen there is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating (very effective, even better than the Nexus 7), so fingerprints are removed much easier, and appear at a slower rate than in the case of ordinary glass.

With manual brightness control and with a white field displayed in full screen, the maximum brightness value was about 425 cd / m², the minimum was 5.2 cd / m². The maximum brightness is quite high, and given the excellent anti-reflective properties, readability even on a sunny day outdoors should be at a good level. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable value. In the presence of automatic brightness control by light sensor (it is located to the left of the front camera eye). In automatic mode, when the ambient light conditions change, the screen brightness both increases and decreases. In complete darkness, the auto-brightness function reduces the brightness to 5.2 cd / m² (dark, but something is visible), in an artificially lit office (about 400 lux) it sets to 115-130 cd / m² (suitable), in a very bright environment (corresponding to a clear day outdoors, but without direct sunlight - 20,000 lux or a little more) increases to 435 cd/m², which is even slightly higher than with manual adjustment. In the settings you can enable High brightness mode(and optionally tick the option Extended outdoor mode, which does not affect anything), then the brightness will be set to maximum for a while, but then it will again adjust to the ambient light. In general, the auto-brightness function works more or less adequately. At any brightness level, there is virtually no backlight modulation, so there is no screen flicker.

IN this smartphone IPS type matrix is used. Micrographs show a typical IPS subpixel structure:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of microphotographs of screens used in mobile technology.

The screen has good viewing angles without significant color shift even at large deviations of the gaze from the perpendicular to the screen and without inverting shades. For comparison, here are photographs in which the same images are displayed on the screens of Lenovo Vibe Shot and Nexus 7, while the brightness of the screens was initially set to about 200 cd / m² (on a white field in full screen), and the color balance on the camera was forcibly switched to 6500 K A white field perpendicular to the screens:

The uniformity of brightness and hue of the white field is good. And a test picture:

Everything is already bad here, since the color balance differs slightly, but the colors on the Lenovo Vibe Shot screen are oversaturated and unnatural. However, in the screen settings you can find the option true color:

Maybe choosing this option with colors would be better? Indeed, saturation has returned to normal:

However, artifacts appeared on the gradients:

And yet, in general, the changes are clearly for the better, so for further tests, we will leave this mode for now. Now at an angle of about 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen:

It can be seen that the colors did not change much on both screens, but the contrast of the Lenovo Vibe Shot decreased to a greater extent due to more black highlights and a strong drop in brightness. And the white box:

The brightness at an angle at the screens decreased (at least 5 times, based on the difference in shutter speed), but in Lenovo case Vibe Shot has a noticeably larger drop in brightness. The black field, when deviated diagonally, is highlighted strongly and acquires a brownish tint. The photos below demonstrate this (the brightness of the white areas in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the screens is approximately the same!):

And from another angle:

With a perpendicular view, the uniformity of the black field is average, since there are areas with increased brightness along the edge:

Contrast (approximately in the center of the screen) is high - about 1200:1. The response time for the black-white-black transition is 25 ms (16 ms on + 9 ms off). The transition between grayscale 25% and 75% (according to the numerical value of the color) and back takes a total of 35 ms. The gamma curve constructed from 32 points with equal intervals according to the numerical value of the shade of gray did not reveal a blockage either in the highlights or in the shadows, but in the shadows there is a too rapid increase in brightness. The exponent of the approximating power function is 2.19, which is very close to the standard value of 2.2. In this case, the real gamma curve only in the very shadows deviates significantly from the power dependence:

Due to the dynamic and very aggressive adjustment of the brightness of the backlight in accordance with the nature of the displayed image (brightness decreases on dark ones), the resulting dependence of brightness on hue (gamma curve) does not correspond to the gamma curve of a static image, since the measurements were carried out with sequential output of shades of gray almost in full screen. For this reason, we carried out a number of tests - determining contrast and response time, comparing black flare at angles - when displaying special patterns with a constant average brightness, rather than full-screen solid-color fields. Let us show the dependence of brightness (vertical axis) on time when switching from a black field to a white field in half of the screen alternately, while the average brightness does not change and dynamic adjustment of the backlight brightness does not work (graph 50%/50% ). And the same dependence, but with alternate display of fields in full screen (chart 100% ), while the average brightness is already changing and the dynamic adjustment of the backlight brightness works in full:

In general, such a non-switchable brightness correction does nothing but harm, since it reduces the visibility of gradations in the shadows in the case of dark images, and the constant brightness variation is annoying. In addition, this dynamic adjustment, when displaying any image other than a white field in full screen, significantly lowers the brightness, which impairs readability in bright light.

In profiles except true color the color gamut is noticeably wider than sRGB:

IN true color color gamut close to sRGB:

Although the bends in the vertices of the intermediate colors show that the developers did a poor job with the coverage correction. We look at the spectra at first not in the mode true color:

They are not typical, but we have already seen them in the case of several other devices. Sony points out that these screens use LEDs with a blue emitter and green and red phosphors (usually a blue emitter and a yellow phosphor), which, in combination with special matrix filters, allow for a wide color gamut. Most likely, this statement is true for Lenovo Vibe Shot. When choosing a profile true color there is a cross-mixing of primary colors to each other, which returns coverage to normal:

As a result, visually, the colors already have a natural saturation. The balance of shades on the gray scale is a compromise, since the color temperature is noticeably higher than the standard 6500 K and the deviation from the black body spectrum (ΔE) is close to 10, which is considered a borderline indicator even for a consumer device. However, at the same time, the color temperature and ΔE change little from hue to hue - this has a positive effect on the visual assessment of color balance. (The darkest areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance does not matter much there, and the measurement error of color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

A couple of points on the graphs above, obtained in the mode Default, indicate that the color balance is no better in this mode. Oh yes, there is also a profile customizable, in which you can adjust the hue and saturation:

Here it is, the opportunity to adjust the balance! But that was not the case: yes, the balance is adjustable, but almost immediately everything resets itself to the original settings. Developers clearly still have work to do. The question is whether they will do it.

Let's summarize. The screen has a sufficiently high maximum brightness and has excellent anti-glare properties, so the device can be used outdoors without problems even on a sunny summer day. In complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable level. It is permissible to use the mode with automatic brightness adjustment, which works more or less adequately. The advantages of the screen include a very effective oleophobic coating, the absence of an air gap in the layers of the screen and flicker, high contrast, as well as an acceptable color balance and, in the mode true color, close to sRGB color gamut. Significant disadvantages are the non-switchable dynamic adjustment of the backlight brightness, a strong decrease in brightness at an angle and low black stability to the deviation of the gaze from the perpendicular to the screen plane. Nevertheless, taking into account the importance of the characteristics for this particular class of devices, the screen quality can be considered quite high.

Sound

The Lenovo Vibe Shot smartphone sounds quite interesting. The sound in headphones is especially good: the sound remains clear at any volume level, the sound is bright, rich, low frequencies not deprived, the maximum volume is not excessive, but it is enough. The external speaker produces a slightly less interesting sound in terms of bass, but it is also quite bright, juicy and clear at any volume level. The smartphone is not too loud, but it cannot be called quiet either. In conversational dynamics, the timbre and intonation of the voice of a familiar interlocutor remain recognizable. To play melodies, a regular Google Play Music player is used, with the ability to choose from preset equalizer values. Other settings are possible only when headphones are connected.

There is an FM radio in the smartphone, it can record programs and will not work without headphones connected as an external antenna. The ability to record telephone conversations using standard tools is also provided.

Camera

Lenovo Vibe Shot is equipped with two modules of digital cameras with a decent resolution of 16 and 8 megapixels. The front 8-megapixel module is equipped with a lens with f / 2.2 aperture and fixed focus. The camera does not have its own flash, for soft illumination of the face when taking a selfie, you can turn on the “light fill” function, in which the entire space around the viewfinder window on the screen is brightly filled with pink or yellow. It is possible to smooth the skin on the image with varying degrees of aggressiveness using the slider. You can take a picture using the volume key or by swiping your fingers. The quality of shooting for the level of a selfie is more than decent, the pictures come out bright and detailed enough.

The main rear camera is equipped with a 16-megapixel module with a six-element lens with f / 2.2 aperture, optical image stabilizer and a BSI sensor with a true 16: 9 resolution, as well as fast infrared autofocus and triple flash.

Despite the special position of the Vibe Shot model in the company's mobile family, the camera control menu here, however, appearance does not differ from that in other modern Lenovo models of a similar level - for example, the same Lenovo K3 Note. The settings menu itself is very simple and concise, but in addition to this, two more functional modes have been added here. Even the usual auto mode enhanced by a plug-in function called Smart Composition, and with the help of a special switch on the side of the device, you can switch to the Pro Camera mode, where all settings can already be set manually.

The camera shoots video well at a maximum resolution of 1920 × 1080, the image is smooth, the sound is clear and legible. An example test video is shown below.

  • Clip #1 (37 MB, 1920×1080, 30 fps)

Sharping is noticeable on the wires.

The numbers of almost all cars are distinguishable.

With shadows, the camera works well in both modes.

Small noises and noise reduction are noticeable.

Foliage in the background practically does not merge. Noise is clearly visible in the shadows. With moving objects in SuperAuto-mode, the camera does not cope very well.

Nice work with shadows and details.

Good sharpness across the field of the frame, but not according to plans.

Text in daylight, room lighting, and with flash. In all cases the text worked out well.
Macro photography in daylight, indoor lighting, and with flash. In all cases, except for room lighting, the camera does a good job.

We also tested the camera on a laboratory bench according to our methodology.

Lighting ≈3200 lux.

Lighting ≈1400 lux.

Lighting ≈130 lux.

Lighting ≈130 lux, flash.

Lighting<1 люкс, вспышка.

The camera turned out to be good, but still not a flagship. Despite the good sharpness and fairly high resolution, there were some minor flaws such as noticeable noise in the shadows, as well as obvious traces of noise reduction and sharping. Smart Auto mode, as can be seen from both parts of the test, is nothing more than AutoHDR, which has long been present in many smartphones. It does not improve the quality of the pictures, but slightly expands the dynamic range.

There is a physical switch on the body of the camera that allows you to instantly switch to professional shooting mode. However, most of the necessary settings can be made in the normal mode, while the professional one simply puts the exposure and shooting settings on the display. To introduce a separate, and not the most convenient, physical switch for this is at least a dubious decision.

As a result, the camera, of course, is not without flaws, but in general it produces a fairly high quality and will cope well with artistic and documentary shooting. At the same time, for the proud title of a camera phone, the camera is frankly rather weak.

Telephone part and communications

The smartphone works as standard in modern 2G GSM and 3G WCDMA networks, and there is also support for LTE networks used in Russia (Cat4, up to 150/50 Mbps). Five LTE FDD bands are supported, including the three most common among domestic operators (B3, B7 and B20). In practice, with the SIM card of the domestic operator Beeline, the smartphone in practice confidently registers and works in the LTE network. The quality of signal reception does not cause any complaints, the device confidently maintains communication indoors and does not lose the signal in areas of poor reception. Other network features are standard: there is no NFC, only one Wi-Fi band (2.4 GHz) is supported, Bluetooth has version 4.1, a mode for connecting external devices to the USB port (USB Host, USB OTG) is implemented.

There are no complaints about the navigation module: all three world systems (GPS, Glonass and Beidou) are supported, with a cold start, the satellites are located until the first minute is up. The magnetic field sensor required for the operation of the electronic compass of navigation programs is available in the smartphone.

Working with two SIM-cards is organized according to the usual Dual SIM Dual Standby standard, when both cards can be in active standby mode, but cannot work at the same time - there is only one radio module. The organization of work with them is convenient, all settings are collected on one page. Any of the SIM cards can be assigned as the main one for making voice calls, data transfer or sending SMS messages. You can select the desired card right at the time of the call or SMS. The slots for SIM cards are equivalent in their capabilities, high-speed data transfer in 3G (4G) networks is supported by any slot, cards are switched directly from the menu without the need to physically change slots.

OS and software

The operating system uses the fifth version of the Google Android LolliPop software platform with the Lenovo Vibe UI proprietary shell installed on top of it, there is the possibility of updating the firmware over the air (OTA). The shell here practically does not differ from the standard Vibe UI interface, which is now installed in all modern smartphones from the Chinese manufacturer. The distinctive features of this interface are well known: bright lurid design, the maximum number of various settings, some of which will never be in demand by the average user, too small and narrow fonts that are inconvenient for perception, and an excessive number of third-party pre-installed programs. Here, however, a very nice background image in the form of black leather is used, but everything else remains the same, including bright multi-colored icons. A branded smart button is also in place, as is a set of standard utilities under the common unifying name Lenovo DoIt. Includes a number of pre-installed applications: ShareIt and CloneIt for quick file transfer between your smartphone and other devices via WiFi, SyncIt for creating backups, restoring contacts, SMS and call logs, SnapIt Camera for shooting in various modes.

Performance

The Lenovo Vibe Shot hardware platform is based on the familiar Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 (MSM8939) octa-core single-chip system (SoC). This 64-bit platform is made using big.LITTLE technology, where four Cortex-A53 processor cores are adjacent to four of the same Cortex-A53 cores. It uses the second-generation Snapdragon 615 SoC with an increased maximum core frequency of up to 1.65 GHz, that is, the platform here is slightly more powerful than its “normal” counterparts used in other similar solutions. The same Adreno 405 video accelerator with a frequency of up to 550 MHz is responsible for graphics processing. SoC Snapdragon 615 is made using the 28 nm process technology, and belongs to the mid-range category.

The amount of RAM of the smartphone is a decent 3 GB. The device has 32 GB of flash memory, of which more than 23 GB is initially available for the needs of the user. The amount of memory can be expanded with microSD cards, and the mode for connecting external devices to the Micro-USB (OTG) port is also supported.

According to the results of testing, the familiar platform showed unexpectedly quite good results. I must say that the Snapdragon 615 platform is now a true average in the mobile SoC market, since it gives exactly the average performance result, not higher. For example: MediaTek MT6752, which is related to it in positioning and competes with it, gives more than 40K points in the AnTuTu comprehensive benchmark, and in all other tests it also has better results. But it is also worth noting that in the case of the second-generation Snapdragon 615 SoC with an increased maximum core frequency, the performance of the system as a whole has increased, respectively. This is especially noticeable in the complex tests of AnTuTu and Geekbench 3. In AnTuTu, its result reached more than 36K, and in the 64-bit version of the test it even reached 40K, which in its usual modification Snapdragon 615 has never shown before. That is, the updated version of the Snapdragon 615 almost caught up with the competing MediaTek MT6752 in the tests, although it still did not catch up.

Testing in the latest versions of AnTuTu and GeekBench 3 comprehensive benchmarks:

For convenience, we have summarized all the results obtained by us when testing a smartphone in the latest versions of popular benchmarks in tables. Several other devices from different segments are usually added to the table, also tested on similar latest versions of benchmarks (this is done only for a visual assessment of the obtained dry numbers). Unfortunately, within the framework of one comparison, it is impossible to present the results from different versions of benchmarks, so many worthy and relevant models remain “behind the scenes” due to the fact that they once passed the “obstacle course” on previous versions of test programs.

Testing the graphics subsystem in 3DMark gaming tests,GFXBenchmark, and Bonsai Benchmark:

When testing in 3DMark for the highest performing smartphones, it is now possible to run the application in Unlimited mode, where the rendering resolution is fixed at 720p and VSync is disabled (due to which the speed can rise above 60 fps).

Browser cross-platform tests:

As for benchmarks for assessing the speed of the javascript engine, you should always make allowances for the fact that the results in them depend significantly on the browser in which they are launched, so that the comparison can only be truly correct on the same OS and browsers, and this possibility is available when testing not always. In the case of Android OS, we always try to use Google Chrome.

thermal images

Below is a thermal image of the back surface taken after 10 minutes of running the GFXBenchmark battery test:

It can be seen that the heating is a little more localized in the upper part of the device, which apparently corresponds to the location of the SoC chip. According to the heat chamber, the maximum heating was only 34 degrees (at an ambient temperature of 24 degrees), which is quite a bit.

Video playback

To test the "omnivorous" when playing video (including support for various codecs, containers and special features, such as subtitles), we used the most common formats, which make up the bulk of the content available on the Web. Note that for mobile devices it is important to have support for hardware video decoding at the chip level, since it is most often impossible to process modern versions using processor cores alone. Also, do not expect everything from a mobile device to decode everything, since the leadership in flexibility belongs to the PC, and no one is going to challenge it. All results are summarized in a single table.

According to the test results, the subject was not equipped with all the necessary decoders that are necessary for the full playback of most of the most common multimedia files on the network. To successfully play them, you will have to resort to the help of a third-party player - for example, MX Player. True, it also needs to change the settings and manually install additional custom codecs, because now this player does not officially support the AC3 audio format.

Video output features tested Alexey Kudryavtsev.

We did not find an MHL interface, as well as Mobility DisplayPort, in this smartphone, so we had to limit ourselves to testing the output of video files on the screen of the device itself. To do this, we used a set of test files with an arrow and a rectangle moving one division per frame (see "Methodology for testing video signal playback and display devices. Version 1 (for mobile devices)"). Screen shots with a shutter speed of 1 s helped to determine the nature of the output frames of video files with different parameters: the resolution varied (1280 by 720 (720p) and 1920 by 1080 (1080p) pixels) and the frame rate (24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 fps / from). In tests, we used the MX Player video player in Hardware mode. The test results are summarized in the table:

720/30p Great No 720/25p Okay No 720/24p Great No

Note: If both columns Uniformity And Passes green ratings are set, this means that, most likely, when watching movies, artifacts caused by uneven alternation and dropping frames will either not be visible at all, or their number and visibility will not affect viewing comfort. Red marks indicate possible problems with the playback of the respective files.

The battery installed in the Lenovo Vibe Shot has a capacity of 2900 mAh, which is quite decent by modern standards. According to the test results, the test subject demonstrated a confident average level of autonomy for a smartphone with a Full HD display. Testing was conducted without using any power-saving features.

Continuous reading in the Moon + Reader program (with a standard, light theme, with auto scrolling) at a minimum comfortable brightness level (brightness was set to 100 cd / m²) lasted almost 13.5 hours until the battery was completely discharged, in the FBReader program without auto scrolling, these figures are approximately 16 hours. When continuously watching YouTube videos in high quality (HQ) with the same brightness level through a home Wi-Fi network, the device lasted about 8.5 hours. In 3D gaming mode, the smartphone worked for 3.5 hours. The developers themselves promise up to 30 hours of talk time and up to 19 days of standby time. Full charge time is only a little over 2 hours, which is not that much.

Outcome

On the one hand, we have before us a pleasant in many respects, quite solid modern mobile device with an attractive and even stylish appearance, high-quality assembly and satisfactory filling, which, on the whole, did not reveal any unpleasant surprises. The quality of the screen and sound system, the set of network and communication modules, autonomy did not disappoint. All this in Lenovo Vibe Shot is on a good average, although not at all a flagship level.

But at the same time, the main highlight of this whole idea, the camera, is clearly not up to the level of the best photo solutions on the mobile device market. The camera is not bad, but it is no better than other solutions of the same level, which are not at all positioned as specialized camera phones. At the same time, the Lenovo Vibe Shot smartphone allowed itself to rise in price as much as 30 thousand rubles in official Russian retail, which is much higher than the price, for example, of the same Sony Xperia C4 or Alcatel OT Idol 3 (5.5) - no less high-quality in all respects (in including in terms of camera) smartphones, the cost of which even in official deliveries varies from 18 to 22 thousand rubles. If we take the price of uncertified Lenovo Vibe Shot, then they are offered by sellers on our market for about 23 thousand, which is also clearly more than, say, the same uncertified Xiaomi Mi 4i or Nubia Z9 mini models cost. These are just a few examples, but in any case, it turns out that Lenovo Vibe Shot is noticeably overpriced for its level. And yet, we repeat, apart from the price, the device itself looks very interesting, especially against the backdrop of the majority of fairly similar Lenovo offers.

The Vibe Shot model was presented at the MWC 2015 exhibition. The company, which is actively promoting its wide range of smartphones in Russia, positioned it as a camera phone. But have the developers been able to implement a good mobile camera and not forget about all the other features that you expect to get when buying a smartphone? This will be revealed in our detailed test.

Yes, Lenovo Vibe Shot is not a flagship. But this is a modern smartphone with mid-range hardware, and in terms of a set of “skills”, it is quite relevant at the moment. The main features of the device are a well-designed camera and an interesting design.

Obviously, Lenovo decided to create a kind of symbiosis. We are offered a multimedia gadget with an appearance based on the Sony Cyber-Shot camera, which has a strict design and can suit business people. The positive aspects include the use of metal and glass in the construction.

It should be noted that this model can be found on sale in several modifications (Z90, Z90-3, Z90-7). There are versions for the Chinese market, for the whole world, as well as a more affordable version cut down in some respects. With external identity, there may be differences in display resolution, network support, storage capacity. So when buying, you need to specify the version and carefully study the characteristics.

Thanks to the Dragonmart store, today we have a Lenovo Vibe Shot (Z90-7) smartphone on the test with a standard set of parameters, but with firmware and delivery kit not adapted for Russian-speaking users. These models are supplied to the Russian market and are accompanied by local support. Officially, only graphite gray and carmine red body colors are presented in Russia, but there is also a white color. The average price of new items at the moment is 28,000 rubles.

Let's start the review of Lenovo Vibe Shot with a brief description of its specifications.

The stuffing of the apparatus does not raise any questions, since everything is at a good level. A powerful processor is installed, there is 3 GB of RAM, and a large built-in storage can be expanded with capacious memory cards. In addition, the smartphone has a high-definition display, there is support for two SIM-cards, and the battery should not let you down. Pleased with a complete set of necessary communications and a compact lightweight case made of good materials. The camera should be the strongest element.

While the minuses are not noticeable except, of course, the price in rubles. Although in dollars the cost seems adequate. It's time to start an external examination of the guest of the laboratory.
