MASTER OF CONSTRUCTION OF COMPUTER PATTERNS
VIDEO COURSE FOR BEGINNERS AND EXPERIENCED TAILORS
ABOUT THE CONSTRUCTION OF PARAMETRIC PATTERNS
The course “Master of Creating Computer Patterns” is a step-by-step video tutorial that describes in detail how to create clothing patterns in the VALENTINA program, using almost any currently existing pattern design technique.
BENEFITS FROM THE COURSE
WHAT BENEFITS WILL STUDYING THE COURSE BENEFIT YOU?
I will list only a few of them.
- You will learn how to build parametric patterns in the Valentina program, using for construction any currently existing design method that you consider the most accurate and which you can have at your disposal. For those who don’t know what parametric patterns are, I’ll explain. These are patterns that are automatically rebuilt according to new measurements that are entered into the measurements file.
- You will learn to effectively use the drawing tools available in the program to create patterns so that the process of creating a pattern does not take many hours, but is quick and, most importantly, correct.
- I'll show you how to create a measurement file and variable table for a computer pattern so that it is as versatile as possible for future use. So that with its help you can build patterns for any type of figure (typical standard, stooped, kinky). So that it can be used for light clothing and outerwear, for example, for a dress, a coat, and a jacket.
- You will learn how to build computer patterns, taking into account the rules of the Valentina program so as not to make mistakes and not roll back your work a huge number of steps to correct them.
- You will learn to form the basics and details of a future product from a general drawing. You can make seam allowances for them or, if you don’t need them, then make patterns without such allowances.
- I will show you how to design the pattern pieces so that the inner darts are present on the printed pattern. If you have already worked in the Valentina program, then, most likely, you have encountered the fact that darts that are built inside the contour of the pattern are lost on the printout. But we will overcome this problem.
- You will learn how to place control marks in the right places on the patterns so that they appear on the printout. Unfortunately, the program, without some tricks on our part, does not print out any additional inscriptions or labels. And without control marks on the pattern, you will never sew the sleeve into the armhole correctly in your life.
- You will learn how to layout the details of patterns on a conventional sheet of paper of any standard format so as to place these details on the minimum number of sheets of writing paper needed to print the pattern on a home printer.
In general, learn to save paper.
WHAT WILL WE BUILD IN THE COURSE?
To record the course lessons, we chose the most difficult product to build, on which we can fully demonstrate the operation of all the drawing tools of the program.
This is the basis of a women's shoulder piece with a set-in sleeve. And we build it in such a way as to make it the most universal.
So that with its help you can then build the basis of a pattern for a blouse and a dress and a jacket and a coat. And, in addition, so that this basis can take into account the characteristics of any figure, that is, it automatically changes to a typical standard, to a stooped or to a kinked figure.
WHO WILL BE INTERESTED IN THE COURSE?
FIRST - TO BEGINNING SAILORS.
You are just starting to sew and don’t yet know how to make patterns. Then it makes sense to learn it right away on the computer. Moreover, the pattern making program is free and you will receive it along with the course.
SECONDLY – TO EXPERIENCED SAILORS.
You sew to order and want to speed up the process of creating patterns for clients who are constantly losing weight or getting fatter.
It’s a thankless job when you have to remake the same pattern over and over again for the same client. A lot of time is wasted, which could be used for other more useful activities.
AND FINALLY - FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO EARN EARNINGS.
Yes Yes! You can make money by creating custom electronic patterns. Learn how to make them in the Valentina program and this can become a source of additional income for you.
This article will show an example of using the program to create a basic jacket base. The example is rather educational and should demonstrate the basic principles of constructing patterns using the program.
You can find the English version here https://bitbucket.org/dismine/valentina/wiki/Running.
When you launch it for the first time, you will see a blank program window.
At this stage we cannot yet begin to create the pattern. Before this you need to create a drawing. Each pattern can consist of several drawings. For example, a separate drawing could be a sleeve, a waistband, front and back halves, a collar, and so on.
Click the "Add New Drawing" button on the control panel and enter a unique name for the drawing.
Each drawing has a base point from which the creation of the drawing begins. All points in the drawing depend on the base point. This is the only point that can be moved by holding the left mouse button. If you want to change the point name, just call the context menu with the right mouse button and select parameters.
At the moment, the program has a built-in table of standard measurements for men. Click the "Variable Tables" button.
Each measurement has its own symbol, base value, increase in height and size. The Calculated Value field contains the current measurement value for a given height and size.
The values of the lengths of arcs, lines and curves are also available in this window. The increase tab contains user-created variables. The structure of this table is identical to the table with standard body measurements.
To create the basic base of the jacket, you need to fill out the increase table with additional variables.
Creating a drawing.
Section AG = 0.2*Cr+0.07*P+Ps.vprz = 264 mm. (down vertical)
To create points of this type, you must use the "Point at end of segment" tool
Activate the tool and select the first point of the line (click on the circle). After this, you will bring up the tool dialog box. Here you must fill in the formula field, the name of the point and select the angle. You can also specify the line type. The line type indicates whether you need a line between points.
Variables are used to fill out formulas. Double-clicking a variable name adds it to the formula.
Each drawing object: point, arc, curve can be deleted. The "Delete" item will be active only for those objects that are not the base for the following.
In the future, the construction of drawing objects occurs in a similar way. Selecting a tool, selecting the required number of points, arcs, curves and finally filling out the dialog.
Section AU = 0.5*AG=132 mm.
To construct this point, use the "Point Along Line" tool. To do this, you need to select two points on the line and fill in additional dialog fields. Why this particular tool? Yes, this point can be created using the previous tool, but if the angle of the line changes, we will get the wrong Y point.
Section AT = 0.25*P+Pdts2=460 mm. (down vertical)
Section AN=0.33*P+0.33*Pkor+1=610 mm (down vertically)
Section GG2=0.35*Cr+0.017*P+Ps.shs+Pk.shs2=222 mm. (to the right of point "G" horizontally)
Section G2G3=0.3*Сг+Pshpr2=158 mm. (to the right of point "G2" horizontally)
Section G3G4=0.35*Сг+0.01*Р+Ps.shg+Pk.shg2=216 mm. (to the right of point "G3" horizontally)
Section G3G5=0.5*G3G4=108 mm. (to the right horizontally)
Section AA1=0.1*Pkor=8 mm. (to the right horizontally)
Section A1A2=0.35*Ssh1+Pshgs=86 mm. (to the right horizontally)
Section A2A3=0.35*A1A2=30 mm. (up vertically)
Section A2A20=0.75*A2A3=22.5 mm. (bisector of angle A1A2A3)
Back neck line. Points A1, A20, A3. To create, use the Compound Curve tool.
A complex curve is used if you need to connect 3 or more points with a smooth line. There is also a Curve tool, but its use for 3 or more points is not recommended. In this way it is difficult to achieve a smooth transition between curve segments. Select the points through which the curve passes and click OK. Edit the shape of the curve by dragging special points.
Section A3A30 = 6 mm. (down vertical)
Line segment G2P=0.2*Сг+0.05*Р+Ps.vprs=240 mm. (Up vertically)
Line segment UP1=GG2 (right horizontal)
Through point A30 and P, draw a line to the right. In this situation, we already have these points, so we will use the line tool. Specify two points and click OK.
Section A3P2=0.2*Cr+0.03*P+Pk.shp2+Ppos.shp=161 mm. (to the right along line A30P) As you can see, this point is drawn along line A30P, but the length is indicated by line A3P2. For this reason, we will use the special “Shoulder Point” tool.
Select the first and second point of the line. In our example, A30 and P. Then point A3.
Section A30P20=50 mm (to the right along line A30P)
Shoulder line. Points A3, P20, P and P2. A3 and P20 are connected by a curve. To do this, use the curve tool.
Section G3P3=0.2*Cr+0.05*P+Ps.vpr=216 mm. (up vertically)
Section G5A4=0.25*Сг+0.05*Р+Ps.vprp=251 mm (up vertically)
Section A4P4=0.2*Cr+0.03*P+Pk.shp2=153 mm (along line A3P3)
Section G3P5=50 mm (up vertically)
Connect point P5 and point P4.
Section P4P6=3 mm. (down along line P4P5)
Segment P5P7=0.5*P5P6 (along line P5P4)
Section P7P8=10 mm. (perpendicular to line P5P7)
To create a perpendicular, use the Perpendicular Point tool. Select a point P7, point P5 and fill in the formula and point name.
Today we will look at the free Valentina program, which provides a set of functions and tools for creating patterns. Experienced users can immediately start creating a project, and for beginners we recommend visiting the help section on the official website, where you will find all the necessary information on the intricacies of working in this software.
Immediately after launch, you can begin creating a pattern. On the left side of the main window there is a toolbar divided into several tabs. The points are usually added first. You can create a perpendicular point, a bisector, a special mark on the shoulder and a dart.
After moving the object to the work area, a form will appear where you need to specify the length of the line, assign a designation to it, add a color and specify the type, for example, dotted or solid.
Editing using formulas is available. Calculations occur using input data - measurements, increments, line length or distance between points. If the formula is constructed incorrectly, an error will be displayed instead of the result and you will need to recalculate it.
The created point can be edited either manually or by entering coordinates, the window with which is located on the right in the work area. Here you can change the X and Y position, rename the point.
Adding shapes and lines
Pay attention to the creation of different lines and shapes. You don't need to create one point at a time and connect them together. Simply select the required tool in the appropriate panel, after which you will need to enter the dimensions of the figure into the table. You can also calculate dimensions using formulas, as shown above.
The entered dimensions are automatically saved in the project variable table. Use it to change specified data, add a formula, or find out information about lines, shapes, and points.
Performing operations
Consider the tab "Operations" on the toolbar. You can create a group of parts, rotate, and move objects. Operations work only with finished parts, they are not intended to move a single line or point.
Adding measurements
Often a pattern is created using specific measurements. The program provides a separate Tape add-on, in which measurements are added. You can create several of them at once so that you can quickly access them using the catalog. Measurements are divided into known and special.
In known ones, sizes are indicated according to generally accepted standards. The necessary parameters are checked by checkboxes, after which they are added to the table and saved in the catalog. In special measurements, the user himself indicates the name of the body part being measured, after which he enters the length or girth in the required unit of measurement.
Advantages
- The program is distributed free of charge;
- Provides all the necessary tools and functions;
- Simple and convenient editor;
- Russian interface language.
Flaws
During testing of the program, no flaws were found.
Hello, dear readers of the cutting and sewing site. All discussed earlier in the section “ computer cut ", computer programs designed for creating patterns have one characteristic feature. They are free. Or shareware. Such as Cutter .. But the available functionality, by the way, is impressive. Jeans, for example, fit very well. The functionality of the well-known program was also slightly limited RedCafe . There were times when the program was completely free. All that was needed was the Internet. Because the patterns were stored online. Those days are gone. The online version of RedCafe began asking for money for printing patterns.
About the offline version, we can even say that this is a commercial product. This version of the program works without any “Internet”. Locally. Both versions of RedCafe are characteristic in that there is a large base for themparametricproducts. You can also download the program and database on the cutting and sewing website ideaport. Absolutely free online resource MakeMeDress . The project appears to be doing well. The VKontakte group, which unites users of this resource, already includes half a thousand people. Dresses with a semi-fitting silhouette are built in a balanced, proven way... The disadvantage is the impossibility of modeling. But you can always save the pattern to a file, in a format understandable by CAD programs. Modeling there. Or even the old fashioned way, on paper. They also have their own advantages and disadvantages. FunReal And WildGingers .
After such a short excursion, we move on to the newbie reviews of programs for creating patterns. Today, among the truly free and very functional programs, “Valentina” stands out. You can download this program for creating Valentine patterns for free from its official website -http://valentina-project.org/.. Not only download for free, but also use for free, of course. Don't be intimidated by the English-language interface of the resource. Probably the author aimed to monetize thea program for constructing “Valentine” patterns with the help of bourgeois users. One way or another, the program for creating clothing patterns is downloaded from an English-language resource. When installing a program for creating clothing patterns, the entire interface will be in Russian. It is possible to select the interface language during installation. This is a big plus. The undoubted advantage of this program for creating clothing patterns is also the fact that there are versions of it running under different operating systems. That is, the Valentin program is cross-platform.
A lot of information can be found on the Valentina project blog - http://valentina-project.blogspot.ru/ There are many links there that you may find useful. But you need to be prepared for the fact that there is only one resource on the network, and this is VKontakte, Russian. There is a wonderful author on YouTube. This is Olga Makaryuk. Here is her video about the pattern design software. Some information is outdated. There are no examples in the repository now. But the presentation of the material is very logical and simple. The first video is an introduction to the program for sewing Valentine's clothing.
The following video is devoted to constructing points in the program for Valentine's patterns
