Remove automatic download. How to remove unnecessary programs from startup. Video: removal through the "Control Panel"

As new programs are installed, your computer may slow down. One of the reasons - a large number of utilities in the list for autorun that take device resources. Today we will look at what autoload is, as well as how to optimize it so that resources are not wasted.

Autoload: what is this option and why is it useful

The option to autorun programs means opening utilities for further work in them immediately after turning on the computer, in particular, Windows OS. There is a list of startup programs. The user has the right to edit it himself: add and remove unnecessary utilities. Auto mode turning on applications will save you from searching for shortcuts on the "Desktop" in order to launch programs: you turn on your computer device and can immediately work in the desired utility.

In the "Startup" tab, you can edit the list with programs that should open when Windows starts

It is important to know that a considerable number of startup utilities negatively affect the performance of the operating system: the utilities included in the list continue to function in background after autorun and load the CPU. As a result, the device works slowly, especially if it has poor technical characteristics.

Thus, it is not recommended to include many utilities in the list: no more than 7. In this case, only antivirus will be a mandatory item. All other programs are up to you. For example, if you work constantly on the Internet, put your favorite browser on startup.

How to disable autorun utilities in Windows 10 or remove unnecessary software from there

Autoload - useful option, but sometimes, as we noted above, users also face its disadvantages. Problems in this case may appear through no fault of a person: often, during installation, utilities are included automatically in the autorun list without the knowledge of the user, even if there is no need for this. As a result, even new computer starts to hang.

How to be in such a situation? You can't turn off autoload completely. In this case, only unnecessary programs are removed in any way below, so that the list becomes much smaller.

Through the "Task Manager"

In the "Task Manager" you can not only end program processes, but also set up your autorun list. What exactly needs to be done in this window?

  1. In Windows 10, "Task Manager" can be quickly launched through the "Taskbar" (the bottom bar on the computer screen, which contains icons open programs and the start button). Right-click on the icon-free field on the "Taskbar" and select "Task Manager" from the context menu.
Select "Task Manager" from the context menu of the "Taskbar"
  2. You can open this window in the classic way: hold down the key combination Ctrl + Shift + Delete and select "Task Manager" in the new screen.
  3. The dispatcher window will have several tabs. As you may have guessed, we need the "Startup" section.
In Task Manager, switch to the Startup tab
  4. Click on the column at the top "Status" to sort the list with utilities - it will be convenient to work with it.
Click on the "State" parameter to sort the list
  5. Look at the applications that are included in startup. Find the ones you don't need. Select them one by one with the left mouse button, and then click on the "Disable" button located at the bottom of the window. If you want to deactivate all applications in this list, repeat the procedure for all items except the antivirus, as it should start working immediately after Windows startup.
Select the program in the list with the left mouse button and click on the "Disable" button
  6. Close Task Manager and restart your device.

Using the "Registry Editor"

You can set up a list with autorun utilities not only through the familiar Task Manager, but also through a window called the Registry Editor. Even beginners who previously did not know about the existence of this important built-in service will cope with this procedure. Let's consider everything step by step.

  1. In order for the “Registry Editor” window to appear on the screen of your device, hold down two keys at the same time: Win (button with Windows icon) and R.
  2. A small Run window will open. It will contain one line "Open". Enter the regedit command here. Now click on OK or press Enter on the keyboard.
Enter the regedit command in the "Open" field
  3. We click on the left button "Yes" to allow the "Registry Editor" to make changes on this computer.
Click "Yes" to allow "Registry Editor" to make changes to your device
  4. The editor window is divided into two parts. We will look for the folder with files we need in the left area, where the tree structure is located.
The "Registry Editor" window is divided into two parts: sections and a list of files with folders
  5. First, open the following sections one by one: HKEY_CURRENT_USER - Software - Microsoft - Windows - CurrentVersion - Run.
  6. As a result, you will see a list of files that are responsible for auto-launching individual applications on the device. As a rule, the name of these files contains the name of the utility, so it will be easy to determine which items to remove here.
Look in the list of registry entries in the Run folder for the names unnecessary programs that shouldn't start with Windows
  7. To remove an application from the list, such as ViStart or CCleaner, right-click on it to bring up a small menu with options. In it, we already select "Delete".
Click on "Delete" to remove the registry entry
  8. Click on "Yes" to confirm the removal of the file from the registry. Don't worry, it won't crash your system. You simply disable the launch of the utility.
Confirm the deletion of the registry entry by clicking "Yes"

Using the "Startup" folder on the system drive

The folder containing the list of startup programs is located on system drive. In order not to look for it in Windows Explorer for a long time, we suggest using fast way, which will help you immediately display the desired section on the screen. So what needs to be done:

  1. On your keyboard, hold down and hold two keys for a couple of seconds: Win and R. The familiar Run window will open, with which we launched the Registry Editor.
  2. In the "Open" field, write the following: shell: startup. In order not to make a mistake in the command, it is better to copy it, and then paste it into the line using the context menu, which is called by the right mouse button.
Type shell:startup in the "Open" field to launch the "Startup" folder
  3. As a result, " Windows Explorer”, in particular, the folder “Startup”.
In the "Startup" folder there will be a list of programs that start working together with the launch of Windows
  4. To take away unnecessary application from the list, right-click on it to bring up a list of options. In it, we already click on the “Delete” item, which is closer to the end.
Select Remove from the context menu that appears to remove the program shortcut from the Startup folder

This method has a big minus: not all applications that are in the "Autorun" mode are displayed in this folder. Thus, you will not be able to fully edit the list of utilities.

Uninstalling with Task Scheduler

Optimize the list of utilities for autorun along with Windows boot You can use another built-in service of the operating system: "Task Scheduler". How to open it and what needs to be done in its window?

  1. Open the "Search" section on the "Taskbar". It will be with a magnifying glass icon to the right of the start button.
Click on the magnifying glass icon to open Windows Search

  4. In the service window, open the "Task Scheduler Library".
  5. There will be a list in the middle of the window. Find an unnecessary program in it. Left-click on it to highlight it, and then click on "Delete" or "Disable" on the right third of the screen. Be careful, as here you can disable the launch of important processes.
In the list of programs to be scheduled to run with Windows, disable unnecessary items

Installing special programs

You can clean up the startup list not only due to the built-in Windows tools but also with the help of special software. Today we will consider for example two simple and effective utilities: CCleaner and Autorun Organizer.

CCleaner: quickly and easily remove programs from autorun

CCleaner utility - a universal assistant for optimization Windows work from the developer Piriform. Its main function is to cleanse hard drives from "junk" files that accumulate over time and begin to slow down the device. With this tool, you can easily and easily edit the list of startup programs. Autorun Organizer: easy to use autorun manager

Unlike CCleaner, this tool, developed by ChemTable Software, is only for managing the startup list. It is his main function: it does not clean discs. Nevertheless, the utility copes with its tasks qualitatively: even if the program re-includes itself in the autorun list, Autorun will immediately disable it.

The disadvantage of the utility is that during installation it is proposed to install additional software: Yandex.Browser and other related products from this company. However, you can refuse to install these programs by simply unchecking the boxes.

Now let's look at where you can download this startup manager, as well as how to work in its window.

In the program itself

Often utilities include themselves again in the autorun list some time after you have removed them using any of the above methods (with the exception of Autorun Organizer, since the program strictly monitors this). To prevent them from re-entering the list, turn off the autoload option in the utility itself along with the OS. Usually in each program there is an item "Start automatically with Windows".

Consider the procedure using the example of one of the popular download managers and a media player in one tool called MediaGet.

  1. Open MediaGet using the shortcut on your desktop or start menu.
  2. Look for a small gear icon in the top right corner.
Find the gear icon in the top right corner
  3. Click on it to open the menu. Now click on "Settings" to open the section with options.
    Left click on "Settings"
  4. You will immediately be taken to the "Basic" tab.
  5. In this tab, in the "System" block, find the item "Start with Windows".
    Find "Start with Windows"
  6. Uncheck it so that in the future the program does not run in the background immediately after Windows starts.
    Uncheck "Start with Windows"
  7. Left-click on the green OK button for the changes to take effect.

You can go into the settings of each program individually and turn off the option to start with Windows to remove them from the list completely.

If there are a lot of utilities on startup along with Windows that you don’t need, you need to clean up the list: remove all programs that you don’t use, as they take away precious system resources computer. This can be done using standard means Windows and at the expense special utilities, such as CCleaner and Autorun Organizer. If you notice that the program is re-added to the list, disable the "Start with Windows" option directly in its settings.

Autorun is a very useful thing, especially when it comes to applications that need to be open all the time. For example, skype or antivirus. But often there are extra programs sitting there: they only interfere with work and load the system.

For example, the uTorrent torrent client. Of course, if you are constantly downloading something, then this may be fine, but in most cases it is not needed. So why load the system once again and spend Internet traffic ?!

There are several ways to disable autorun. I will talk about each of them, because it is often not so easy to unroot a program. Let's start with the simplest.

Method number 1

Disabling autorun in the program itself

Often, autoload can be disabled right in the application itself. To do this, open the program, go to its settings and uncheck the box in the right place. I'll use uTorrent as an example.

one . In the upper right part of the window, click the "Settings" button and select the "Program settings" item in the list.

2. In the window that opens (in the "General" section), uncheck the box next to "Run uTorrent with Windows" and "Run minimized", click "Apply" and OK.

As you can see, everything is very simple. But, unfortunately, it doesn't always work. In some applications, this setting may be deeply hidden or absent altogether.

Method number 2

Clean up the "Startup" folder

In general, in Windows, moreover, in any version (XP, 7, 8, 10) there is a special folder where there are shortcuts to programs that are loaded with the system. It is located in Start, in "All Programs" and is called "Startup".

Found in it a hated application - delete without hesitation. This is done as usual: right-click - Delete.

If you do not have this folder, open it through the search. To do this, in Start, in the search bar, type shell: startup and open the found folder. Remove unnecessary applications and then open and clean the shell: common startup folder in the same way

In theory, of course, it is so, but in practice there are only a part of the programs that are in autorun. And it’s not a fact that among them you will find the one you want to get rid of.

Method number 3

Editing the System Configuration

One of the most reliable ways to remove a program from autorun. Works almost always.

one . Open Start, in the search box, enter msconfig and select the found file.

Remove the checkmarks from unnecessary programs, then click "Apply" and OK.

In addition to regular software, this list also includes utility programs, which are highly discouraged from being downloaded. Therefore, it is worth removing the birds only if you are sure that this is the “same” (unnecessary) program.

Usually, after that, a small window appears, where Windows prompts you to restart the system. Doing this is optional. In any case, the next time you turn on the computer, the changes will take effect.

Method number 4

Delete autoloads in CCleaner

CCleaner is such a program that helps the average user to clean the system of all junk (remove junk, clean the registry, and much more). Including through it, you can configure autorun.

Often this application is already installed on the computer and is located in the Start - All Programs - CCleaner folder. But if it is not there, and you would like to keep the system clean and tidy, then you can download and install this utility for free from here.

one . We launch the program, select the item "Service" (Tools), go to "Startup" (Startup). The Windows tab should be open here.

Programs that are in autorun mode will be highlighted in a more saturated color and opposite them in the Enabled column will say Yes or Yes.

2. We click on the program that we want to remove from startup, and click on the "Disable" button (Disable) at the top right.

3 . Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

Method number 5

Disable autorun via registry

The registry is where all the settings are Windows systems. You need to work in it carefully, because if you do something “wrong”, you can greatly complicate your life.

Particularly talented, for example, manage to completely disable the system, after which the computer simply refuses to work. So if you are not sure of yourself, it is better not to take risks: use the methods that I wrote about above.

one . Open the registry editor. You can do this through the search in the "Start" by typing the word regedit there

2. Open the folders in the following sequence (on the left side): HKEY_CURRENT_USER - Software - Microsoft - Windows - CurrentVersion - Run

3 . On the right side there will be commands that run certain programs. This is where they need to be removed.

And check the nearby RunOnce folder. Full path to it: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce. Here, too, there may be commands that launch all sorts of applications. We delete them in the same way.

You can also check and, if necessary, clean these two folders:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Which programs to remove from autorun, and which ones are better left

For maximum fast loading and work Windows autorun it is desirable to free from excess as much as possible. However, you should not be zealous, because this can lead to serious problems, especially if you touch service applications.

Programs such as iTunes, uTorrent, Mail.ru, Yandex can be safely removed. Usually they are specially added to startup right during installation and do nothing useful.

But everything that has such words as Intel, Nvidia, Microsoft is better leave. And, of course, do not touch the antivirus - it should work constantly from the moment the computer is turned on until it is turned off.

With messengers, the situation is ambiguous. System boot speed certainly suffers, but manual startup takes extra time. And sometimes you can completely forget to start some Skype and end up missing an important call or message. So decide for yourself.

In general, if in doubt, you can type the name of the program into the Yandex or Google search engine and find out what it does. Most likely, it will also be written there whether it can be removed from autorun without consequences or not.

For most users personal computers and laptops, it's no secret that the more programs that start automatically when you turn on your computer, the slower it loads. This is obvious, because in this case, the resources of the system, in addition to loading itself, are also spent on launching these same programs. Therefore, one of the most effective and meanwhile simple ways is to remove everything superfluous from startup.

How to disable automatic startup of programs in Windows?

Developers of the Windows operating system. This is done in the following way. Regardless Windows versions you need to press the combination of buttons "Windows" + "R".

Key combination “Win”+”R” on the keyboard

The Run window will appear.

Open the system configurator with the msconfig command

In it you need to type the command “MSCONFIG” without quotes and click “OK”.

In the window that opens, go to the “Startup” tab, where all the necessary functionality is located to disable programs that run when the computer is turned on.

To disable auto-loading of the program, uncheck the box next to it and click “OK”.

When you go to the "Startup" tab, a link to the task manager will be indicated. Since it is through it that autorun programs are managed.

Work speed operating systems Windows families depends on many things, including the number of applications and services that start at startup. To improve the speed of booting the OS, it is useful to know how to prevent programs from starting automatically.

What is it for?

When the system starts, the time from turning on the PC to a full-fledged entry directly depends on autoload. The more services, services and applications run simultaneously with the OS, the slower it will come to a working state. To speed up the process, it is useful to prevent some programs from starting automatically when Windows starts.

You need to do this carefully and legibly - if you remove the services the system needs from the list, you can worsen its performance. As a rule, not only messengers like Skype and Discord, or download managers (uTorrent), but also useful software get into autoload. This includes loading system services, hardware drivers, and cloud storage controllers.

How to disable autorun programs?

Automatic download of software can be disabled in the settings of the applications themselves. Those who support this function have a corresponding item in the settings. So, you can turn off the autorun of Skype, uTorrent, Steam, Discord and other software that implements this feature by default.

This method requires a thorough approach, but may not be the most effective. There may be hidden services in the list of utilities that start with the system. In addition, the main applications do not always have a significant impact on the speed of starting the OS.

Windows 7 - disable via Msconfig

In older versions of systems from Microsoft, autorun is configured through the configuration window. To get into it, you need to open the "Start" menu and click "Run". Similarly, you can simultaneously press the key with the Win symbol (in the lower right corner of the keyboard) and R. In the input field that appears, write msconfig.exe, then "System Configuration" will open.

This is a built-in Windows OS configurator that allows you to configure startup parameters for various tasks. To get a list of software that starts simultaneously with the system, you need to go to the "Startup" tab. In it you can see detailed information about automatically starting applications and disable unnecessary or potentially dangerous ones.

Windows 8 and Windows 10 - "Task Manager"

In new versions of the OS, the configurator window, when you go to the desired tab, will inform you that everything you need has been transferred. Starting with Windows 8, "Startup" is located in the "Task Manager". It is most convenient to get into it through the key combination Ctrl, Shift and Escape - after pressing it simultaneously, the desired interface will immediately open. In the section, as before, all information about the applications included in the launch list at the same time as the system will be presented, they can be disabled by pressing the corresponding button below.

When turning off the autoload function for applications, you need to understand which of them are intended for what and how they affect the speed of starting the OS. It is recommended to disable various download managers, including uTorrent, as well as instant messengers. The utilities of printers, scanners, cameras and similar peripherals are not critical for the operation.

The most important thing is to exclude game clients from the list - Steam, Epic Games Store, as well as launchers of various online games. They are demanding on PC resources and greatly slow down the transition to a working state. At the same time, it will be much faster to launch them if necessary.
